Significance of the Study

The primary aim of this study lies in its attempt to ________________(your

topic)________________ of the respondents and its relation to their academic performance.

Conceptual Framework

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

This part of the study discusses the conceptual framework of the researcher. It is

illustrated in a diagram. It follows the independent and dependent variable model of system

approach.

The independent variable consists of the factors that affect the English Proficiency of the

respondents including _____________________________________.

The dependent variable is the academic performance of the respondents.

Statement of the Problem

The main purpose of this study is to ___________________________________ and its

relation to their academic performance. Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of the following

variables:

1.1 : Gender

1.2 : Age

2. What are the effects of (your topic/independent variable) on the academic performance of the

respondents?

3. What is the academic performance of the respondents?

4. Is there a significant relationship between (your topic) and the academic performance of the

respondents?

Hypotheses

Ho1: There is no significant relationship between (your topic) and the academic

performance of the respondents.

Ha2: There is a significant relationship between (your topic) and the academic

performance of the respondents.

Definition of Terms

The following terms are conceptually and operationally defined to ensure a full

understanding of the reader in this study.

Scope and Delimitation

The primary focus of the study is to (your topic) of the respondents from Camarin High

School and its relation to their academic performance.

There are 30 selected grade 10 students (___ males & ___ females) out of _____

population of Grade 10. This number comprised ______ % of the total population. The research

will be conducted during the school year 2022-2023.

Chapter III

Research Design and Methodology

This chapter discusses the methods and techniques used, population and sample of the

study, instrument of the study, data gathering procedure, and data processing and statistical

treatment used in the study.

Methods and Techniques Used

This research will use a descriptive survey method wherein respondents are given a

survey questionnaire to know the respondents’ demographic profile and to determine the (your

topic) and its relation to their academic performance.

Random Sampling Technique is used to select the respondents who will be the subjects of

the study.

Population and Samples of the Study

The respondents of the study are selected grade 10 students from Camarin High School.

The respondents comprise 30 out of ___ population of Grade 10. There are __ males and ___

females. The gender orientation of the respondents has nothing to do with it and has no effect on

the result of the research.

Instrument of the Study

A survey questionnaire is used to glean significant information concerning respondents’

demographic profile and the effects of (your topic) on the academic performance of the

respondents.

Respondents are gauged using the Likert 5-point Scale described as follows:

Scale Range Verbal interpretation

5 4.50-5.00 Strongly Agree (SA)
4 3.50-4.49 Agree (A)
3 2.50-3.49 Neutral (N)
2 1.50-2.49 Disagree (D)
1 1.00-1.49 SD (Strongly Disagree)

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher will perform the following procedures in gathering data for the

study:

 Make a survey questionnaire.

 Ask permission from the administrators to conduct research in the school.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________
 Determine the number of respondents through the use of the Random

Sampling Technique.

 Conduct a survey to the respondents.

 Gather the data.

 Tally, tabulate, analyze, interpret, and present the data.

Data Processing and Statistical Treatment

The following statistical tools were used for the interpretation of needed data:

1. Mean is the average used to add up all the numbers and then divide by the number of

numbers. The most common expression for the mean of a statistical distribution with a discrete

random variable is the mathematical average of all the terms.

To calculate it, add up the values of all the terms and then divide by the number of terms.

Symbolically,

Where:

∑ - represents the summation

X - represents scores

N - represents number of scores

2. Grand mean is the mean of all the means coming from different sub-samples. It is

calculated by taking the means from different sub-samples used, adding up those means, and

then dividing the result by the number of sub-sample used. Symbolically,

Where:

XGM - Grand Mean

∑x - sum of all scores

N - Total number of sample.

2. Frequency Count and Percentage. These were used to enumerate the answers of the

profile of the respondents as to gender, previous grade in English, language used at home, and

educational attainment of the parents. These were also used in determining the English

Proficiency of the respondents.

Formula for percentage: % = (f/n) x 100

Where: % = percentage

f - response distribution

n - total number of students

3. Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was applied to

determine the relationships and effects among the variables in the study.

Given two variables, the formula for computing the correlation is given below:

Where:

r - correlation x- independent variable

n - total number of students y- dependent variable

Interpretation

0.0 No correlation; no relationship

±0.01 -±0.20 Very low correlation; almost negligible relationship

±0.21 -± 0.40 Slight correlation; definite but small relationship

±0.41 -±0.70 Moderate correlation; substantial relationship

±0.71 -±0.90 High correlation; marked relationship

±0.91 -±0.99 Very high correlation; very dependable

±1.0 Perfect correlation; perfect relationship
