Integumentary

system
What is the

Integumentary

system?
The integumentary system is the

body’s outer layer. It acts up as a

physical barrier that protects your

body from infection, bacteria, and

sunlight. It also helps make you feel

some sensations from different objects

such as hot and cold. The

integumentary system in humans is

primarily composed of the skin

specifically the epidermis and dermis.

What is the main function

of the Integumentary

system?

The main function of the integumentary system is to

protect your body from infection and injuries you could

get at the environment outside. This system serves as

your body’s coat of armor and the first line of defense

against any harm such as viruses, bacteria, and other

microbes. It shields your body from harmful sunlight such

as the sun’s ultraviolet rays (UV) and helps maintain your

body temperature. It also synthesizes Vitamin D.

The Main parts of the

with a total area of about 20 square feet.

you can touch and see.·

Hair follicle- Tube-like structure that

keeps your hair in your skin.

Hair bulb- Located under the skin

that is responsible for hair growth.

Glands

to release materials like water, salt, or oil from

under of the skin to the surface of the skin. It consists

of the following:

Sudoriferous glands- The glands that create

secrete sweat through your skin. There are two

types of sweat glands: eccrine glands and

apocrine glands. Eccrine glands are located all

over your body and open to your pores while
