A.

Because the elderly population is high, there is an increased cost to society because of the
economic burden being placed on the working age. This increased cost drives away people
under the age of 50 because they would have to pay more the usual to get the things they
need. Other places would be cheaper to live, pulling them towards these locations.
B. Because the population shown has a high elderly population, there are increased services to
support them such as retirement homes or medical facilities rather than distributed services
for all ages due to the lack of younger ages. This causes migrants who are over the age of
65 to move here because they would be getting increased support for themselves.
C. The age cohort of 80+ encompasses all of the ages from 80 up to the natural lifespan and
could cover around twenty years of range at most. It covers a broader range of age, so it
has more people than the 75 to 79 cohort which only has four years of range.
D. Need for social welfare services can be shown through age composition of a local
population because we can see which ages are in the majority and need the most help. If
there were a high youthful population, more services would be in need to support them. For
example, if there were a large cohort of 10 to 14, this indicates that there needs to be
schooling provided for them. If there were a high elderly population, then there would be
more things to help them increase accessibility to places such as wheelchair ramps or other
things.
