WHAT IS
BUSINESS ETHICS?
The system of moral and ethical beliefs
that guides the values, behaviors, and
decisions of a business organization and
the individuals within that business
organization.
WHAT IS
BUSINESS ETHICS?
Business ethics refers to the standards for
morally right and wrong conduct in the
day to day operations of the business.
Can you recall situations, where you have
to make business decisions with
underlying questions, what is the right
thing to do?
IS LEGAL AND
ETHICAL THE SAME?
Business ethics enhances the law by outlining
acceptable behaviors beyond government control.
Importance of Business Ethics
• Ethics improves your business reputation.
(PUBLIC PERCEPTION)

• Business ethics can help you retain the best talent.

(EMPLOYEE PERCEPTION)

• Good business ethics can limit risk for fines and

legal troubles.
Benefits of having good
business reputation
This means you’ll appeal to a variety of people and organizations
that will be great for boosting your business such as:
• Clients and customers who believe in your company and want
to support it.
• Trade and community organizations who want you as a
member
• Investors who want to help your business grow
• Communities that want to host your business or events
• Other businesses that want to partner with you
• Newspapers, magazines and other media who want to offer you
special recognition
What is an Ethics Program?
An ethics program helps communicate your company’s business
philosophy to employees, vendors, investors and customers.

A good ethics program can help strengthen your relationships

with employees and customers and improve your company’s
reputation.

Although your employees might be familiar with your company’s

informal stance on ethics, instituting a program eliminates any
confusion and provides everyone with the same information
regarding ethical business behavior.
Example of Business Ethics
in Practice
- TREAT EMPLOYEES WELL.
- IMPLEMENT HONEST BUSINESS
PRACTICE
- PRACTICE CORPORATE SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY
- PARTICIPATES IN ENVIRONMENTAL
CONCERN ACTIVITIES
From Industry/Global Perspective
Business ethics differ from
industry to industry, and
nation to nation. The nature
of a business's operations has
a major influence on the
ethical issues with which it
must contend.
CODE OF CONDUCT
- A company’s code of conduct is a
policy that outlines principles and
standards that all employees and
third parties acting on behalf of the
company must follow. The code of
conduct reviews the organization’s
mission and values and ties these
ideals to professional behavior
standards. In many workplaces,
codes of conduct become
benchmarks of performance.
IMPORTANCE OF CODE OF ETHICS

- code of conduct serves as a reference point

for employees to make better choices on a
day-to-day basis. While every possible
ethical dilemma an employee might
encounter won’t be spelled out, the code
should lay out the guiding principles by
which employees should act and therefore
lead there workforce to make the right
decision.

Technology and digital communication
have made it easier to identify and
publicize ethical missteps. It is a good
business decision to come up with a
business ethics program and/or code of
conduct.

“Whenever society is stuck or has
an opportunity to seize a new
opportunity, it needs an entrepreneur to
see the opportunity and then to turn
that vision into a realistic idea and then
a reality and then, indeed, the new
pattern all across society. We need such
entrepreneurial leadership at least as
much in education and human rights as
we do in communications and hotels.
This is the work of social
entrepreneurs.”

Started by Peter Frykman, the
Stanford-trained mechanical
engineer behind Driptech,
knew there had to be a more
efficient way to channel water
to crops growing on small
plots in the developing world
where fresh water is
increasingly scarce and
precious. But his brainchild
was not just the system of
interconnected tubes. He
realized that affordability had
to start with the
manufacturing process.
Started by Professor Muhammad Yunus,
the founder of “Grameen Bank” reasoned
that if financial resources can be made
available to the poor people on terms
and conditions that are appropriate and
reasonable.

Grameen Bank (GB) has reversed

conventional banking practice by
removing the need for collateral and
created a banking system based on
mutual trust, accountability, participation
and creativity. GB provides credit to the
poorest of the poor in rural Bangladesh,
without any collateral.

As of September, 2021, it has 9.43 million

members, 97 percent of whom are
women. With 2,568 branches, GB
provides services in 81,678 villages,
covering more than 93 percent of the
total villages in Bangladesh.

including economic, social, and environmental.
