Procedure for Taking the Anthropometric Measurements

Weigh the neonate; place the newborn on a properly lined weighing scale nude; record the weight 4. Measure the length: Place the newborn in a side lying position, take the measurement from the crown to the sole of the foot; record the length in cm (average: 46 – 56 cm) 5. Head circumference: measure the head from the center of the forehead above the eyebrows around the occipital prominence. Record the head circumference in cm (average: 34 to 35 cm) 6. Chest circumference: measure from the center of the chest at the level of the nipple. Record the chest circumference in cm (average: 32 to 33 cm) 7. Abdominal circumference: measure the abdomen at the level of the umbilicus. Record in cm. TOTAL
