1. What is your understanding of indigenous science?


•In my own understanding Indigenous science is “that body of traditional environmental and cultural
knowledge unique to a group of people which has served to sustain that people through generations
of living within a distinct bioregion”. Indigenous science incorporates traditional knowledge and
Indigenous perspectives.

2. What are examples of indigenous science practices? (minimum of 10 examples)


• Predicting weather conditions and seasons using knowledge in observing animals’ behavior
and celestial bodies;
• Using herbal medicine;
• Preserving foods;
• Classifying plants and animals into families and groups based on cultural properties;
• Preserving and selecting good seeds for planting;
• Using indigenous technology in daily lives;
• Building local irrigation systems;
• Classifying different types of soil for planting based on cultural properties;
• Producing wines and juices from tropical fruits; and
• Keeping the custom of growing plants and vegetables in the yard.

3. Why do some people believe in indigenous science?


•Indigenous Peoples generally believe they are responsible for the well-being of the natural
environment around them. Indigenous knowledge is rooted in a social context that sees the world in
terms of social and spiritual relations among all life forms.

4. Do you think indigenous science should be considered science? Support your answer
•Indigenous science incorporates traditional knowledge and Indigenous perspectives, while non-
Indigenous scientific approaches are commonly recognized as Western science. Together, they
contribute substantially to modern science.

5. What is the role of indigenous science in the development of science and technology?
•Indigenous science have been responsible for the development of many technologies and have
substantially contributed to science. The role of indigenous science composed of traditional
knowledge that uses science process skill and guided by community culture.

6. What is the role of indigenous knowledge in the development of indigenous science?


•The role of Indigenous Knowledge in Advancing Science and Technology. In particular, when it
comes to understanding ecological relationships and natural resource management, indigenous
knowledge has played a huge role in providing cumulative wisdom passed on from generation to
generation.

7. What is the role of indigenous science in the development of science and technology in the
Philippines?
•Indigenous knowledge or practices played an vital role for the development of science and
technology, this knowledge used by some researchers which it can help them to find or create a new
interventions that can help to science and technology. Indigenous science is important that it helped
the people in understanding the natural environment and in coping with everyday life

8. How do society and culture influence the development of science and technology?
•Society helps determine how its resources are deployed to fund scientific work, encouraging some sorts of
research and discouraging others. Similarly, scientists are directly influenced by the interests and needs of society and
often direct their research towards topics that will serve society
