1. What are your learnings in this subject?

The subject Life and Works of Rizal despite being mandated by Republic Act 1425, I would say
is still relevant and useful today including the future generations. With the lessons and learnings
I can adopt from this subject can have an impact not only on my identity, but also to other
people together with the society.
To begin with, I do believe that every individual is a hero of their own. With this, there are
values highlighted in the Life and Works of Rizal that we can apply everyday. Values such as
being selfless. Same with Jose Rizal, he put his fellowmen first before himself. He was helping
everybody to have freedom and equality from the Spaniards. I do also put myself in the shoes of
other people, prioritizing their needs by helping them before myself, and allowing myself to give
service to them. Then, Faith of God, despite of all the challenges I faced and battled in life,
including all the blessings I received, I would still not forget to thank God for it. This situation
thought me how to be courageous same with Rizal having enough courage to fight against the
Spaniards. Moreover, this subject thought me to appreciate history more and being a nationalist
to be exact. This helped me better myself as a Filipino. Also, I learned that we do not need to
belong with the high level of society in order to fight for your rights or to help other people. In
fact, we ordinary people can help in our own little ways. In addition, Rizal fought with his
writings instead of violence as I too will strive to achieve my goals in life without trampling other
people.
2. Who is your favorite character in the El Filibusterismo? Why?
I do not have any favorite character in the El Filibusterismo. However, I am enthralled with
Donya Victorina. We all know that Donya Victorina is one of the passengers of the "Bapor Tabo"
that sales to Laguna De bay and she was at or belonged to the surface of the deck or sa "ibabaw
ng kubyerta."
The characteristics of Donya Victorina such as she loves to argue, she thinks very highly of
herself and she likes to look down on people, especially the Filipinos. Unfortunately, these are
not the characteristics I loved about her. Instead her being pretentious is what I am enthralled in
wherein, she pretended to be a European where in fact, she is a Filipino. With this, there are
lessons regarding on showing your true colors and identity I learned with the characteristics of
Donya Victorina. It is such a tragedy to see many people especially youths today pretending and
hiding who they really are. They set their identity on other people and not on themselves. They
dress themselves and easily swayed by trends or they tend to copy a celebrity's look.
3. Do you still believe that the youth is the hope of the motherland according to Rizal?
As a youth myself, definitely, I believe that we are the hope of the motherland. Nowadays,
youths are becoming more adaptable to create change and knowledgeable enough to
contribute to the welfare of society. With the world, getting advance and digitalize, youths can
advance the current technology. Come to think to it, more-or-less parents wanted their children
to finish their schools and be employed. One of the reasons is to overcome poverty, to help the
family, and to make life easier. Therefore, see how youths just by finishing their education and
having a stable job can impact families and also the education system of our country.
