At the end of discussion, the student should be able to:
a) Identify the weather systems and climate.
b) Attain an understanding of the types of weather and what causes it.
c) Perform the activity in identifying weather systems and climate.

C. Abstraction Our topic for today is

about the weather
systems and climate

Now, let us start our

discussion.
First, let’s define
Weather.

Weather refers to the

temperature, humidity,
and windiness, and if it is
fair or there is
precipitation.

Next, why does Weather

Change?

THE ATMOSPHERE IS
SO THIN that a single
regional mass of cold or
warm air can dominate
the entire vertical extent
of the troposphere.

Now that we have

already defined weather
and why does it change,
let’s proceed to defining
air mass as stated in the
explanation why does
weather changes.

Air Mass
The pattern of global
circulation helps form
large bodies of air, called
air masses, that have
relatively uniform
temperatures and
moisture over large
horizontal distances.

AIR MASS
CLASSIFICATION
SYSTEM

The first letter is

lowercase and signifies
the moisture
characteristics, where “c”
is for continental (dry)
and “m” is for “maritime”
(humid).

The second letter is

uppercase and refers to
the temperature
characteristics: “A” for
Arctic (or Antarctic), “P”
for polar (somewhat
warmer than Arctic), “T’”
for tropical, and “E” for
equatorial.

An “A” air mass is

inherently continental
(dry), because water in
such areas is often
frozen. An “E” air mass
is inherently maritime,
because so much of the
air at equatorial latitudes
is over or near a source
of water.

FRONTS
Types of Fronts
A. Cold Fronts
B. Warm Fronts
C. Stationary Fronts
D. Occluded Fronts

Atmospheric
Disturbances
It is a more general term
than “storm” and
includes atmospheric
conditions that cannot be
classified as storms.

Anticyclones
An anticyclone is a high-
pressure area with
subsiding air in the
center, which displaces
surface air with winds
blowing outward, away
from the center of the
system

Cyclones
A cyclone is a low-
pressure area that is
typified by uplifting air
and winds that tend to
converge on the center
of the low in an attempt
to equalize pressure.

Now, let’s identify the

types of weather.

Types of Weather
A. Tropical Cyclones
Hurricanes
B. Tropical Cyclones
Tornadoes
C. Thunderstorm

Tropical Cyclone
Hurricane
A hurricane is essentially
the largest storm on
Earth.

Tropical Cyclones
Tornadoes
A small, intense cyclonic
storm characterized by
extremely low pressure,
violent updrafts, and
powerful converging
winds. Tornadoes are
the most violent storms
on Earth.

Thunderstorm
Thunderstorm are
columns of moist,
turbulent air with variable
amounts of rain, strong
wind, lightning, and hail.

Climate
Climate is the long-term
pattern of weather at a
place, including not just
the average condition
but also the variability
and extremes of
weather.

Köppen Climate
Classification System
The most widely used Yes Ma’am
climate classification is
based on temperature
and precipitation
patterns. Vladimir None Ma’am
Köppen, German
climatologist who
developed it.
Now that we already
identify the types of
weather and what
causes it, as well as the
climate, did you
understand our topic?

Any questions or
clarifications regarding
the topic?

Thank you for listening.

D. Application Since we are done

discussing about the
atmosphere specifically
the weather systems and
climate. Get a 1 whole
sheet of yellow pad
paper and write what
have you identified and
learned from the weather
systems and climate. A
minimum of 3 sentences
and a maximum of 5
sentences only.

I will give you ten (The student will

minutes to finish your write 3-5
work. Submit it to me sentences)
when you’re done.

III. EVALUATION (15 minutes)

Identify the correct answer. Write your answer in a ½ sheet of yellow pad paper.
1. Refers to the temperature, humidity, and windiness, and if it is fair or there is
precipitation. (Weather)
2. The pattern of global circulation helps form large bodies of air, that have relatively
uniform temperatures and moisture over large horizontal distances. (Air mass)
3. Occurs when a cold air mass actively moves in on a warmer air mass and pushes it
upward. (Cold front)
4. It is the aggressor, invading a region occupied by a colder air mass, a warm front
form. (Warm front)
5. More general term than “storm” and includes atmospheric conditions that cannot be
classified as storms. (Atmospheric disturbances)
6. A low pressure area that is typified by uplifting air and winds that tend to converge on
the center of the low in an attempt to equalize pressure. (Cyclone)
7. Essentially the largest storm on Earth. (Hurricane)
8. A small, intense cyclonic storm characterized by extremely low pressure, violent
updrafts, and powerful converging winds. are the most violent storms on Earth.
(Tornadoes)
9. IS THE LONG-TERM PATTERN of weather at a place, including not just the average
condition but also the variability and extremes of weather. (Climate)
10. Picture (Tropical)

VI. ASSIGNMENT
Write what have you understand about the types of weather and explain each
what causes it.
