An Assamese Bamboo Showpiece

This candle stick holder is a 11-centimeter-long piece made from 3 different sized
bamboo sticks placed telescopically. The bamboo at the bottom has the largest
diameter of 7.5 cm and is 4 cm long, it has a thin plywood sheet glued to the bottom
which acts as the base of the holder.

The medium sized stick is placed with its center aligned to the center of base. It has a
diameter of 3 cm and is 5.5 cm long. Between the bottom and the middle stick there is a
small 2cm long and 1cm in diameter hollow stick is glued horizontally to both vertical
bamboo sticks.

Note the bamboo sticks placed in a telescopic manner.

The stick with the smallest diameter of 2 cm is 7cm long glued to base with its center
aligned to the center of the base. A torus like structure is formed by using thin wooden
stripes held together using a rigid wooden ring, fabric strings and glue. On the top of the
stick lies a bronze cap placed with its shallow side facing upwards, which is used to
place the candle. The bronze cap prevents the candle from burning through the bamboo
and also finishes the look of the holder.

them.

The sticks are slightly burned to give a dark color to them. They are also polished to
give them a smooth texture. The bottom stick has a vertical groves which are equally
spaced from each other but varying in height. With pieces mostly fixed using wood glue
the holder is not very durable and can easily break apart if not handled properly.
