3 Famous Composers of Classical Period;
Ludwig Van Beethoven - Ludwig van Beethoven was a German pianist and composer widely considered to
be one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time. His innovative compositions combined vocals and
instruments, widening the scope of sonata, symphony, concerto and quartet. He is the crucial transitional
figure connecting the Classical and Romantic ages of Western music.
Johann Sebastian Bach – Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21st l685, the son of Johann
Ambrosius, court trumpeter for the Duke of Eisenach and director of the musicians of the town of
Eisenach in Thuringia. For many years, members of the Bach family throughout Thuringia had held
positions such as organists, town instrumentalists, or Cantors, and the family name enjoyed a wide
reputation for musical talent.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – (1756–1791) was arguably the most gifted musician in the history of
classical music. His inspiration is often described as 'divine', but he worked assiduously, not only to
become the great composer he was, but also a conductor, virtuoso pianist, organist and violinist.
Mozart's music embraces opera, symphony, concerto, chamber, choral, instrumental and vocal music,
revealing an astonishing number of imperishable masterpieces.

The musical Characteristics of Classical Period


Homophonic texture - it is when the main melody is accompanied by other instruments playing different
rhythms and notes that support that main melody.
For example, when you sing while strumming chords on your guitar, that is a homophonic texture.
Light but with driving rhythm and pulse
Rhythm - is the pattern of long and short sounds as you move through the song.
Pulse - is a steady beat like a ticking clock or your heartbeat.
- It can be measured in time by counting the number of beats per minute (BPM).
Use of crescendo and minuendo.
crescendo - is used for gradually getting louder.
decrescendo or diminuendo - is used for gradually getting softer.
Scale passages - The word scale is sometimes used to describe musical passages consisting of a
succession of consecutive scale degrees in ascending or descending patterns.
- It is also used to describe scalelike exercises that are practiced for the development
of technical proficiency on a musical instrument.
