MODULE FOR GEC 3 – READINGS IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

QUESTIONS TO ANSWER

1. If you were Antonio Pigafetta would you settle in the Philippines instead of
returning to Spain ? Why ? ( 10 points )

- If I were Antonio Pigafetta I would rather settle in the Philippines because I

would like to go and visit one by one the wonderful treasure and wealth of
the Philippines in terms of the island, mountain and all of the beautiful
scenery that the Philippines have and I also want to experience and
embrace the hospitality of the Pilipino because the people of the
Philippines is born to be kind, caring and loving and always hospitable in
other foreign people.

2. Why do you have to familiarize yourselves with different kinds of historical

sources ? ( 10 points )

- It’s important to be familiarize with the different kinds of historical sources

because it helps us to be aware and relate in a personal way in the events
of the past and to promote a better understanding of what is happening
back then and what is the connection to our present daily living today.
Specially student are needed to familiarize in this because it’s encourage
them to be more interested to history and explore it what is the significant
of the past events in our present day today. Trough this we will be
familiarize of what is the differences of primary, secondary and tertiary
sources since knowing it is really a big help for student and researcher to
gather sources as an evidences to a study.

3. If you are going to put yourself in “the shoes of the natives” would you
welcome Magellan and his men ? Explain your answers. ( 10 points )

- If I would be in the shoes of those people I would do the same I will

welcome Magellan and his men because that’s hospitable we are but
despite of that since I didn’t know that Magellan would be an enemy of our
country because he will colonized the country of Philippines and I don’t
want that to happen that’s why I am thankful that Lapu Lapu prevented
Magellan on his intention in our country.
