Processing Questions:
1. In what ways are you different from other students in your class?
- I believe that every individual has differences in all aspects of life, which is what we
call individual differences or diversity that make us unique from others. As a student
in our class, I am different in the way that I think and decide. My learning style and
characteristics or traits differ from theirs.
2. How are you the same as other students in your class?
- Of course, if we have differences, we also have similarities. As a student, I am the
same as other students in our class in the way that we are all in school to learn and
have goals to fulfill. We also have the same rules and regulations to follow as
students in class.
3. Is friendship with the other gender different from same-gender friendship? How and
why?
- It is normal to make friends with the opposite gender; however, friendship with the
other gender totally differs from same-gender friendship. Our approach to our female
friends should be different from our male friends, maybe because of what we called
"attraction." That is why we need to set boundaries between our friends, especially
with the opposite gender.
4. Do you change your actions and activities when you’re in the presence of the other
gender? How and why?
- As a feminine, I change my actions and activities when I am in the presence of the
other gender, not because I am prejudiced against them, but because I sometimes feel
awkward, especially if I do not know them personally, and I set boundaries and limit
myself in communicating and other activities for personal reasons.
5. How and where do we learn our perception of male and female roles?
- We learn our perceptions of male and female roles through gender socialization,
which begins at birth and continues throughout the life course. As we grow and learn
how to behave from those around us, we are introduced to certain roles that are
typically linked to our biological sex. However, those perceptions may change
depending on how we see ourselves as individuals.
6. Do these roles and descriptions limit or enhance our life choices?
- Personally, I believe that these roles and descriptions will limit our life choices
because they limit ourselves, our abilities, and what we want to be in life. For both
genders, it creates an unrealistic and artificial environment. Furthermore, it limits our
capacity to develop our personal abilities, pursue our professional careers, and/or
make choices about our lives.
7. Have you or someone you know ever acted differently from how your gender is
"supposed" to act?
- Yes, I know someone who acted differently from how his gender is "supposed" to act
because of the discrimination and inequalities that he is experiencing.
8. Have you or someone you know ever stood up for a person who challenged gender
stereotypes?
- Yes, I stood up for someone who challenged gender stereotypes because I wanted to
end this kind of behavior that stifles our growth.
9. What other conclusions/statements do you have about this topic?
- In conclusion, we should break gender stereotypes that cause discrimination and
inequality in every individual, which limits our capacity to develop. We should know
that we all have the right to choose and be what we want to be in life. However, we
should know how to limit ourselves and set boundaries because our actions and
decisions have consequences.
