Introduction/Opening of lesson: (5 minutes)
Teacher will begin the lesson by asking students their prior knowledge about literal and
figurative language along with its types. Teacher will write their responses on the board.

Development: (15 minutes)


Teacher will further explain that writers use figurative language to make reading more
exciting for their readers. Teacher will tell students that they will learn a new figurative
language which is ’Idioms’.

 ‘An idiom is essentially a common phrase with a meaning that can’t be understood
by looking at its individual words.’
 They are those funny parts of our everyday speech that we use to communicate
thoughts, ideas, and feelings without referring to them literally.
 It's a type of figurative language, alongside metaphors and similes.
Teacher will write few examples of everyday used idioms:
1. Piece of cake
2. Raining cats and dogs
3. Make a long story short
Teacher will ask students what could these idioms mean and write their responses on the
board.
Written Work: (15 minutes)

After few more examples students will attempt Workbook pg. no. 136 and 137 (Q2 – 3)

Plenary: (3 minutes)
Students will recheck the answers to avoid any mistakes.

specific information.
 Read widely and explore the features of different fiction

Introduction/Opening of lesson: (10 minutes)
Teacher will introduce a new fictional genre called ‘Historical Fiction’.

 Historical fiction takes place in past.


 Historical fiction stories are made-up, but are often based on real people or events.

Development: (30 minutes)


Features:

 based on real life historical events


 The setting is considered the most important element in Historical Fiction.
o Time: an authentic period in history
o Place: a real historical place
 characters are the real people who could have lived in the historical setting
 The plot is based on real events that are mixed with fictional events.
 The main characters are involved in a conflict or dilemma that is realistic to the time
period.

Students will skim read the extract from ‘A Single Shard’ given on pg. no. 205 of
Learner’s book and find the meanings of difficult words from dictionary.

Written work:
Students will attempt the comprehension questions given on pg. no. 207 of Learner’s
book.

 identify the plural possessive pronouns in a text
 spell and make correct use of possessive pronouns, e.g. their,
theirs, my, mine.

Introduction/Opening of lesson: (10 minutes)
Teacher will ask the students to each put something that they own on the table, such as a
pen, eraser, key, drawing, sweater, a piece of fruit, etc. Teacher will then ask them to take
turns and answer the question, using possessive pronouns. For example: Whose book is
this? It's not mine. It's his!

Development: (30 minutes)


Teacher will then further explain that:
 Possessive pronouns are used to show ownership or ‘possession’.
 Possessive pronouns are used to avoid repeating the same information.
 There are seven possessive pronouns in English language: his, hers, mine, yours, its,
ours, and theirs.
Examples: This book is my book, not your book. This book is mine, not yours. (Mine and
yours are possessive pronouns)
In the sentence, mine is a possessive pronoun that replaces my book.
Written Work:
Students will do Q2 (b) and (c) given on pg. no. 211 of Learner’s book in their notebook.
Plenary: (5 minutes)
Students will recheck their work to avoid any mistake.
