1. Are you familiar with this item? What do you think this one is called?
2. When was this item developed?

E. What is/are the characteristics of Electronic Music?
● It’s made using non-acoustic instruments. So, synthesizers are used in place of

guitar. Drums are not really drumming they are programmed or played using
some electronic method be it a midi keyboard/electronic drum kit or a midi drum
pad. The production of it is not very natural sounding since its doesn’t tend to use
“real” instruments rather “not real” instruments and means of producing the
music.
● It creates sound electronically using something called an oscillator.

B. Performance Activity 1:
“Experimentation with the Sounds of the 20th Century Music Systems”
(See LMs pages 33)

ELECTRONIC MUSIC:
1. Create short electronic music pieces using your knowledge of 20th
century musical styles.
2. Record different sounds that are heard in the environment on your mobile
phone, tablet, laptop, etc.
3. Then manipulate the sounds in different ways, for example by playing
the recording device in its fastest or slowest mode any creative
arrangement that you like.
4. Present it to the class after the given time for experimentation

D. What are examples of chance music?


● Among notable aleatory works are Music of Changes (1951) for piano
and Concert for Piano and Orchestra (1958), by the American composer
John Cage, How do you describe chance music? aleatoric music (also
aleatory music or chance music; from the Latin word alea, meaning
"dice") is music in which some element of the composition is left to
chance, and/or some primary element of a composed work's realization is
left to the determination of its performer(s).
