HELLO
& welcome
Congratulations! You have decided to take the plunge and go deeper with God. You are
embarking on a journey of self-discovery that's going to help you grow in your relationship
with God as well as yourself. Learning about the soul will make a huge difference in: your
quality of life, how you function in your gifts and callings, and the spiritual and material
things God can trust you with.

The area of the soul is not something that is really taught on in many churches today. Many
say they know about the soul but what they typically mean is that they know from head
knowledge about the soul. What I am sharing with you here is not from head knowledge. It is
from my own personal experience and study coupled with the knowledge the Lord has given
me in dealing with these areas in my own life.

Because we all live busy lives, I designed this ebook to be a short but effective introduction to
the soul and soul healing. It is filled with exercises and questions for you to practice and
apply what you are learning. I suggest going through this slowly and allowing the Holy Spirit
to take His time in doing the work within you. Some of this information may seem extraneous
to you at first, but God asked me to lay the groundwork for you because as you move
through this, He is going to start showing you the difference between the soul and the Spirit
in your life and in the lives of those around you.

It is my prayer that what you will learn through this study will empower and bless your life as
you grow into everything God has called you to be.

In Him,
Mignon Murrell

Heavenly Father, I thank you

for your love, grace and mercy. I pray that as
I go through this study you
would, through the power of your Spirit, align
my mind with the mind of Christ
and my will with His so that I may receive
everything you have for me here.
In Jesus Holy name I pray. Amen

Laying The Groundwork
Have you ever stopped and seriously thought about your soul?
Have you ever wondered exactly what your soul is and how it really works in your life? Or how it
fits into God’s grand design?

God had a unique plan when He made you. He made you in His own triune image or what
scripture calls “likeness.” You are a being that has a body, soul and spirit.

"Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in
the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that
move along the ground." Gen. 1:26 (AMPC)

The Apostle Paul actually spoke of our triune nature in 1 Thessalonians.

“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and
body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thess. 5:23 (NIV)

He mentioned it again in Hebrews 4:12:

“For the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the
dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the
heart.”

So according to Scripture, we are a being made of three parts and the soul is one of those
parts. The soul, unlike our bodies, is also an eternal part of our being.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; but rather be afraid of Him who can
destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matt. 10:28 (Amp)

"You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body."
C.S. LEWIS
WHAT EXACTLY IS THE SOUL?

The soul is typically considered to be the mind, will and emotions of our being. The Bible has
many Scriptures that specifically address these three parts.

The Mind:
The mind is typically described as the element of a person that enables them to be aware of
the world and their experiences, to think, and to understand. This is the place where our ability
to reason, gain knowledge and understand objectively resides.

“Wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.” - Proverbs 2:10 ( ESV)

Because knowledge is a matter of the mind, we can see that scripture considers the mind to be
a part of the soul.

The Will:
The human will is defined as the mental faculty by which one deliberately chooses or decides
upon a course of action or desire.

In the Book of Job, there are several passages that speak to the matter of the "will".

“So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life.” - Job 7:15 (KJV)

"The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.” - Job 6:7 (KJV)

To “choose” and to “refuse” are both decisions "To assert your willpower is simply
to make up your mind that you
and functions of the will. These passages support
want something,
that the will is also a part of the soul. and then refuse to be put off."
PHILLIP COOPER

Emotions:
Emotions are considered to be instinctive and intuitive feelings that are distinguished from
reasoning and knowledge.

In the book of Psalms, we see emotions are described as having serious affects on the soul.

“My soul will be happy in the Lord. It will be full of joy because He saves.” - Ps. 35:9 (NLV)

“My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.” - Ps. 119:28 (NIV)

In Proverbs 4:23 the writer declares,

"Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life."

The Hebrew word here for heart means mind, feelings and will.  Many scholars state that
when you see the word heart in scripture it is implying “a part of the soul where the
emotions, mind and feelings live.”

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

What is the difference between the will & the mind?

Why do you think emotions make great servants but terrible masters in
your life?

touched. They must be felt with the heart”

THE PROBLEM OF ORDER

As Christians, when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are given the Holy Spirit and
are regenerated and made new. Many Pastors call this being made a New Man.

“Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature
altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new
has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMPC)

The Holy Spirit regenerates us into the likeness of Christ by working through our Spirit and
souls. The effects of the work of the Holy Spirit are felt through our entire being as we are
bought into alignment in Christ. For us to do well in Christ and experience the fullness of
transformation into His likeness, the correct order of living through and by the Spirit FIRST, is
supposed to be active within us.

This is how it is supposed to be, but the issue we find commonly with Christians is that we
don’t live in this “correct” order. We tend to live either: soul-spirit-body or at times, many of us
even live: soul-body-spirit.

Living from the Spirit first, enables us to experience true peace because everything flows the
correct way. When we live out-of-order, we experience friction because our souls, with their
bent towards fleshly carnality, are trying to “rule over” the Spirit. This doesn’t work because the
Spirit is an enemy of the flesh.

“For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to
the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and
in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do.”
- Galatians 5:17 (AMPC)

So understanding what the correct order is supposed to be in our lives is an important step
that can keep us from fighting needless battles with the enemy and ourselves. In order to be
living with the correct order in balance, it requires the submission of our souls with their mind,
will and emotions, to the rulership of the Holy Spirit on a moment-by-moment basis.

Seeking to live our lives from this order is part of the process the Holy Spirit uses to turn
us into the likeness of Christ.

WORKING IT OUT!

Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to show you what order you are
currently living in and then write down what He shows you or says.

Ask The Holy Spirit to show you a situation or time in your life when you
responded in the correct order.

If you are living out of order more than you should be, what do you think
the first step is that you can take to start coming into the right order so
you can experience more peace?

SPECIAL NOTE:
If you have prayed but did not get an answer right away, put this
manual down and go do a different activity for a while. Often when we give
ourselves a break from something that is confrontative, like this question of our soul’s
alignment, it allows time for the Holy Spirit to move past our soul’s
.
defenses and bring the answer to us in a different way.

The Battle Zone
Have you wondered why Jesus did not appear to struggle with much of the things we do on
a daily basis? Or how He was able to deal with difficult people without losing His peace?
Jesus lived in perfect alignment with the Holy Spirit. This means that His mind, will and
emotions were aligned perfectly with God's. Like Jesus, when this happens in our lives, it
reduces the enemy's access and ability to attack our lives.

The soul is the area of our being where the enemy often tries to carve out a landing
"platform" in order to attack us and do his work. There are various ways the enemy tries to
attack us through our souls. One way is through Sin: the appetites of the body, carnality, the
flesh (also called Sarx in some Scriptures) and trying to pull us into Sin through temptation.
Another way the enemy likes to attack is through the mind by implanting negative thoughts,
lies and ideas that act like structures within us blocking the flow of God's truth. Satan attacks
our will through non-godly desires and choices and he enjoys attacking our emotions by
trying to control our responses, especially though things like fear, trauma, anger, etc.
Scripture speaks about the soul having battles in these areas.

“Beloved, I implore you as aliens and strangers and exile in this world to abstain from the sensual urges
(the evil desires, the passions of the flesh, your lower nature) that wage war against the soul.” - 1 Peter
2:11 (AMPC)

"Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery,
enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and
things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the
kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to
Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also
keep in step with the Spirit. - Gal. 5:19-25 (ESV)

So here we see the potential for the soul to struggle with battles between the two.

SPIRITUAL VS. SOULISH

The Apostle Paul actually goes a bit deeper in regards to the soul when he states that it is
possible for a true Christian to live from a “non-spiritual" or soulish state.

"However, brethren, I could not talk to you as to spiritual [men], but as to non spiritual [men of the flesh,
in whom the carnal nature predominates], as to mere infants [in the new life] in Christ [unable to talk
yet!] I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not yet strong enough [to be ready for it]; but even
yet you are not strong enough [to be ready for it],For you are still [unspiritual, having the nature] of the
flesh [under the control of ordinary impulses]. For as long as [there are] envying and jealousy and
wrangling and factions among you, are you not unspiritual and of the flesh, behaving yourselves after a
human standard and like mere (unchanged) men?” - 1 Cor. 3:1-4 (AMP)

So Scripture clearly states that it is possible to be a Christian and still be considered non-
spiritual or as living out your faith from a lesser soulish state.

Many Christians struggle with soulish living. They swing back and forth between the Spirit and
their souls in their emotional responses, the way they live their life, handle situations and deal
with people.

This is because they fail to understand the important Spiritual Principle of "common ground".

Living back and forth in a soulish manner, allowing the Soul to engage us in sinful
practices and responses, gives the enemy the legal right to harass us because it
establishes common ground with Him in our lives.

The enemy can only attack areas within us that he can access and that can belong to him.
He does NOT have the Spirit we have so he looks for ways to attack our souls.

That is one reason why Jesus said in John 14:30 that Satan had no hold on him. Jesus had
fully conquered His soul and did not give the enemy a foothold.
“I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no
claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me; there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he
has no power over Me.]” - John 14:30 (AMPC)

The enemy has nothing in common with our Spirit, but he can rule in the soul realm of a
person who has not fully conquered or submitted that area of their life. This is often called
living from the "old man."

Jesus had nothing within Him that belonged to the enemy therefore the enemy had no
power over him. The truth is that any sin we have not fully repented of, any soulish
behaviors, responses and ways that we may have adopted, and in some areas, any
trauma that has not been healed, all give the enemy a landing platform in our lives.
Understanding this Spiritual principle is a key that leads us to greater freedom in our lives.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

What do you think it means for a Christian to be called "soulish"?

How does the enemy establish common ground in our lives?

Where, if any, do you think the enemy has established common ground
in your life?

"We are sinners simply because we choose to sin or live selfishly. We are
never held accountable for what we are not the author of."

GORDON OLSON
IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT NATURES

Let's go a little deeper. It is important to note that Soul battles are all about natures: Christ’s
nature vs. the carnal (soul) nature which is the realm where the enemy works.

Nature is typically defined as: the inherent character, basic constitution or essence of a
person or thing.

As Christians, because we are being changed into His likeness we have Christ’s nature.
Christ’s nature is a Kingdom nature. It is a conquering Nature that exerts great power and
force within us as we grow in His likeness, our faith and in our walk with God.

This conquering nature does not share space. It confronts the soul nature on a constant basis
until it has full dominion within us and the soul itself is fully submitted like Christ’s. This
wrestling of natures within us is what Paul is talking about in Ephesians 4:22

Strip yourselves of your former nature [put off and discard your old unrenewed self] which characterized
your previous manner of life and becomes corrupt through lusts and desires that spring from delusion;
And be constantly renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh mental and spiritual attitude], And
put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God’s image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and
holiness.- Eph. 4:22

We know Paul is speaking here in regards to our soul because he speaks about our “minds”
being renewed and our minds are a part of our souls.

The renewal of the soul into more of the nature of Christ is a transforming process that is
available to each of us. This process takes time and our active and willing participation for it
to fully happen within us.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you
will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.-Romans 12:1-2
(AMP)

This transformation process happens when we actively choose to purse it.

"Abide in Jesus, the sinless One – which means, give up all of self and its life, and
dwell in God’s will and rest in His strength. This is what brings the power
that does not commit sin."
ANDREW MURRAY
“Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly
responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good- crucified. Since this is the kind
of Life we have chosen, the life of the spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our
heads or a sentiment in our hearts but work out its implication in every detail of our lives.”- Galatians
5:24 Message Version

So as we see from the Scriptures here, true transformation is not a "passive" process.
Transformation begins to happen within us by allowing the Holy Spirit to confront the old soul
nature that may still be active in us, conquering that soulish nature through the powerful and
growing nature of Christ within us and then choosing to live from the Spirit in the right order.

At first glance this process may “sound” like a lot of work but actually all it takes is us being
willing to agree with what the Holy Spirit shows us. Once we agree, then we allow God,
through His unending grace, to do the work that is needed within us.

WORKING IT OUT!
Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of a time where you either acted or
reacted soulishly or made a soulish choice?

Once He does then go deeper by asking Him the reason this occurred.
(Stress? Fear? Anger? etc.)

Now ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of a time where you responded from
Christ’s nature within you? Making note of the difference, will help you
realize how to better tap into the Nature of Christ that dwells within you.

“The fleshy sinful soul is crucified in suffering to awake the spiritual soul.”

LAILAH GIFTY AKITA

Conquering The Soul
Do you know the difference between religion and the Kingdom of God? Religion always
seeks to conform us by controlling our mind, will and behavior where as the Kingdom always
seeks to transform us through giving us freedom from the inside out.

In religion, the focus is always on fixing the negative within us. In the Kingdom, God doesn’t
focus on “fixing” the negative when He works with us because the negative was supposed to
be crucified in us when we came into Christ. Instead, God focuses on building the positive
nature of Christ within us to empower us in freedom to become who He designed us to be.

Understanding that God is for us, is available to us and is committed to helping us live
a more peace-filled life from His Spirit needs to be our focus as we move forward in
our study.

As you grow in Christ you will find that repentance is a necessary tool that the Holy Spirit
uses to help conform us more into Christ’s image. It is important to understand that
repentance is NOT just saying a prayer declaring that we are sorry for something.

Repentance is actually a conscious choice to turn away or rather run away from sin in heart,
mind and action (behavior) and turn towards God, His kingdom, purposes and plans. When
the Bible speaks of repentance, it actually means to make a radical turn from living your life
one-way to living it another.

In other words, we make a conscious decision and then take steps to move our life in a
different direction. In order for us to move forward correctly, we need to understand that we
can only really go where our “focus” is going.

Proverbs 23:7 says, ”as a man thinks in His heart, so He is"

This verse is referencing our focus in life and how our focus actually controls the direction
our lives go. If we stay focused on sin, then we are more apt to find ourselves fighting sin in
one way or another. However, if we shift our focus to God and the transforming work that He
is doing within us through Christ, we will find ourselves moving towards freedom in His
kingdom.
So, when dealing with our souls in repentance, we need to stay focused on what God is
giving us as a replacement for the old sin nature. Instead of fear, He gives us love, instead
of anger He gives joy, instead of stress He gives peace, and so on.

The more we focus on the things that are part of God’s nature like peace, love, joy, patience
and such, we move those attributes forward within ourselves. In this process we find the
Nature of Christ being strengthened within us. In this way, we are empowered by His Spirit
to live from the Spirit and not the soul.

This is true repentance where we find that our internal and external lives are changing and
growing in greater harmony with God's design and purposes for our lives.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

What is the difference between religion and the Kingdom of God?

What is the difference between conforming and transforming to you?

Where should your focus be when you are in a season of repentance?

"Repentance is your privilege, because in the new man context, it is also a reminder of
who you are in God and who you are becoming by the Spirit."
GRAHAM COOKE
LIVING BY THE SPIRIT

So as we shift our focus to Jesus, His nature and the work He is doing by His Sprit within us,
the more we begin to conquer the old unrenewed soul nature. One of the keys to fully
conquering is seeking to live our lives by the leading of the Holy Spirit.

If we live by the spirit let us also walk by the spirit our conduct controlled by the Holy Spirit.
-Galatians 5:25 (NIV)

The Message version says it this way:

Since this is the kind of Life we have chosen, the life of the spirit , let us make sure that we do not just
hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts but work out its implication in every detail of
our lives.

To live by the Spirit you first have to know when it comes to yourself, what is my soul and
what is the Holy Spirit. One of the best ways to know whether what you are dealing with your
soul or the Spirit, is by the fruit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
self-control; against such things there is no law. - Ephesians 5:22 (NIV)

So if you find yourself struggling with emotional turmoil or mental anguish, these are not
fruits of the Spirit. These are typically areas of unresolved issues within the soul. If you find
yourself responding to people or situations and circumstances with anger, frustration or
judgement you need to understand you are moving from your soul.

Living in fear or from a place of double mindedness, are signs of living from the soul
because they are not in step with the fruit of the Spirit. Recognizing what fruit you are
creating and experiencing will help you to begin to discern whether you are living by the
Holy Spirit or through the soul.

Now remember that I said earlier the enemy attacks in the soul realm of our lives because it
is where sin happens and is the area he typically has things in common with us. Jesus did
not struggle with the enemy like we often do. This was because Jesus did not move in His
soul like we often do.

Jesus did not “react” to everything the enemy was doing because His focus was on the
Father and what He was doing. Jesus spent His time mainly in peace, only moving and
responding from the Spirit because His life was fully surrendered to the Holy Spirit.

"God prefers fruits of the spirit over religious nuts."

ADRAIN ROGERS
A WORD ABOUT PEACE

Peace is a part of the nature of Christ. It is a protection against the enemy, draining people
and negative circumstances because it is actually contains supernatural power.

Satan has no weapons against peace because it is NOT a part of his nature and he has
nothing in common with it. When we are living in peace, he doesn't have full access to us or
great dominion in our lives because we are not on the same playing field.

So what he tries to do is pull us out of God’s peace and protection via the soul realm
through things like frustrations, emotions, set backs, negative circumstances, draining
people and the like, in order to get us back on his playing field.

How we respond to these things and how easily we give up our peace, either grows and
strengthens the nature of Christ within us or the nature of the soul. Here is a secret that I
have learned that is of help in keeping your peace intact: You can’t lose if you don’t play
the game.

The enemy wants to wear you out through these various attacks. He wants you angry and
reacting to everything because it gives him more of a platform to harass you. Don’t play
the game. Stay in peace like Jesus did. Strive to live from the Spirit on a daily basis and you
will find yourself better able to have dominion over the enemy and your old nature just like
Christ did.

WORKING IT OUT!
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the good fruit of the Spirit you are creating as
you go about your day.

Ask Him to also show you the fruit of the Spirit He is desiring to work on in your
life.

Give Him permission to work on this area of your life and agree to work with
Him in the changes He desires you to make.

Love and Self-control are the bookends of the fruit of the Spirit. Remove one of them
and the rest fall over.
JOYCE MEYER
CRUCIFY IT!
And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human
nature) with its passions and appetites. -Galatians 5:24

Message version says this :

Among those who belong to Christ. Everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly
responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good- crucified.

Crucifying is really about managing your responses and desires and getting rid of any known
sin. The more you "fast" your soul and its knee jerk responses, the faster you shut the doors to
the enemy and the quicker you experience transformation.

Our souls can be very strong. For example, our emotions will often try to take control and our
wills can have us doing things a certain way in order to ensure success and safety. Until our
Natures are fully transformed into the likeness of Christ, there is a propensity for the soul
within our mind, will and emotions, to respond to life and the work of the enemy in ways that
are not kingdom. These unrenewed responses can extend us into more warfare and draw
more pain and struggle to us, wearing us out.

We have to learn to submit our souls to the leading of the Holy Spirit and not let our souls
push us around. In other words, we can't automatically react to situations from a place of
fear, letting our emotions try to control everything around us. We nail our negative emotional
reactions and desires to the cross-we crucify them.

We STOP and BEFORE we respond, we take a step back into the Holy Spirit and ask for His help
to navigate what is occurring so we can keep our peace. We can do this by asking Him a few
questions when we are confronted with negative situations. Some of the questions could
include:

Holy Spirit, what is truly happening right now?

What is the Source of this?
Is this the enemy attacking me or is this my soul reacting trying to control things?
Why am I feeling or wanting to respond this way? Why am I angry?afraid? etc.
How should I respond right now so I don't lose my peace?

You ask the Holy Spirit to help you identify what is actually occurring and what your response
should be BEFORE you actually respond. In this way, you are submitting your souls to the
leadership of the Spirit and crucifying your fleshly responses and desires.
Sometimes in tense situations, you can do this by simply saying a quick prayer like:

"Holy Spirit, please take over, I surrender to you"

By doing this in that one moment, you are submitting your will and allowing the Holy Spirit to
have control.

It is important to also understand that having emotions is not bad. God gave us emotions for
a reason. They signify many important things going on in our lives. Emotions, in themselves,
are not bad; letting our emotions rule over us and our responses is what is bad.

So submitting ourselves to the Holy Spirit and allowing God to rule in these areas is another
way we can conquer and move forward.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER
What does crucifying the flesh mean to you?

What areas in your life do you think you still need to crucify?

Why do you think it is important to check in with the Holy Spirit before your
respond to difficult circumstances or situations?

"Self-control is not control by oneself through one's own willpower but rather control
of oneself through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
JERRY BRIDGES
RENEWING, RESOLVING, HEALING

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and
effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the soul and
Spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing
and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. - Hebrews 4:12

One of the ways to go deeper in conquering areas of your soul is to focus on renewing your
mind. The Word of God is a great tool for renewing our minds because it divides between the
soul and the Spirit always revealing the truth.

Scripture is alive and active. This means that it has real power to actually inspire life and
change within you. Read and apply the Word of God and its truth to every area of your life.
Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the deeper truths to you as you study so that you can
experience the process of your mind being renewed.

In truth, renewing our mind means that we learn to THINK differently than we currently do.
We now learn to THINK with the mind of Christ that we now have access to through the Holy
Spirit. Part of learning to think like Christ is to study His word so that we can see what He
said, why He said it and how He viewed Life while He was here.

For who has known or understood the mind of the Lord as to counsel Him - But we have the mind of
Christ and do hold the thoughts feelings and purposes of His heart.- 1 Corinthians 2:16

As you read Scripture, ask the Holy Spirit to align your mind with the mind of Christ so that
you learn to process the information in the correct way. Truth without the Holy Spirit can
easily become legalism which Jesus came to destroy. We need both the Word and the Spirit
when reading Scripture so that we actually gain the full measure of understanding.

Another way that we conquer as our minds are being renewed is by resolving and healing
issues. Resolving issues in your mind, will and emotions is actually a very important part of
the transforming process that God wants to do in us.

A thief has only one thing in mind—he wants to steal, slaughter, and destroy. But I have come to give
you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow!- John
10:10 TPT

A lot of times resolving issues is the way God brings healing to our lives. Living from a place
of fear, or a place of unhealed trauma or anger, opens doors in our lives of harassment that
keep negative cycles going.

"You must learn a new way to think before you can master a new way to be."
MARIANNE WILLIAMSON
Seeking to let God help you resolve these issues closes these doors and allows more of his
nature and peace to enter your life. The thing about resolving issues is that it often takes
time and is not always instantaneous. Why? Because it a process.

In the process of resolving our issues we are getting to know the true nature of Christ. We
don't just read about Christ's love, we actually experience it! We experience His love, His
forgiveness and His healing in ways where it becomes a part of who we are.

We go from just hoping for healing to truly experiencing the fullness of it. As healing
happens, Christ’s nature becomes more permanent in us and becomes a full protection for
us. The truth of Christ begin formed within us, actually begins to manifest in our lives.

So even though it can take time and requires us to be honest with the Holy Spirit about our
lives, resolving issues is part of the process of us being renewed.

WORKING IT OUT!

In working through this section, I encourage you to take your time. You may find yourself
needing to work on these different areas for an extended period of time. Allow the Holy Spirit
to reveal to you what is needed and don't be in a hurry, remember that healing is often a
process.

Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to show you the areas in your life that
need resolving in your mind, will and emotions.

Write down these areas and then begin to bring each one of them to Jesus in
your prayer time and ask Him to bring you healing in these areas.

Understand that some areas of healing take time so be patient but know that
you have taken the first step in the process which is often the hardest.

"You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body. You are a complex being!
And Jesus came to heal every single part of you. There's not one part that He doesn't
want to make completely whole."

SPECIFIC HEALING EXERCISES

In this section I have included some basic prayer exercises that address a few specific soul
areas that often are in need of healing. Even though these are scripted prayers, I encourage
you to flow with the Holy Spirit's leading as you pray them adding or deleting what is needed
for your own particular case. Again you are encouraged to take your time going through
these as healing is a process.

NEGATIVE VOWS

Negative inner vows are verbal and mental contracts that we make with our words,
thoughts and emotions in regards to ourselves. They often arise out of some form of
trauma or judgments we have encountered in life. Because our words are tied to our
thoughts and as Scripture says, have the power of life and death,(Proverbs 18:21) the
vows that we speak to or about ourselves can have serous consequences.

Simple phrases said in times of emotional turmoil and distress like, “I will never have… I
will never be able to… I will never do…” can set into motion circumstances that
prophetically fulfill the very words that were spoken. Negative vows can act like road
blocks set up in our souls against forward motion in our life.

Some of us of us are suffering under the consequences of vows that we have made and
completely forgotten about. It is often helpful to revoke these words and remove their
imprint from our lives.

Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to show you where you have made negative vows
in your own life that need to go. Write them down and then pray the prayer below.

“In Jesus name, Father I humbly repent and ask for forgiveness for every negative vow that I have
made or spoken against myself including (here read all of the negative vows you have written
down).

I loose the blood of Jesus over these vows and decree that they are crushed, broken and removed
and have no more power over me or my life. I cut myself free from all of their negative effects over
my my mind, will , emotions and body. I break every cycle these words may have set in motion and
I close every channel that allowed them to operate.

Lord Jesus, I ask you to come and cleanse every place in me that has been affected by these words
and heal every trauma that was created. Fill these places with your Spirit and your healing peace.
Lord, give me the grace to now go forward in my life, free from all these past entanglements. In
Jesus Holy Name I pray.”
FALSE JUDGMENTS

False Judgments are condemning words spoken to us from a parent, a spouse, friend or
someone of influence in our lives that can cast a dark shadow over our lives, acting like a
barrier within our soul.

These are lies that give the enemy power to attack and entangle us. Words like "You’re
stupid…You’re ugly…You’ll never amount to anything!”- all of these words can have
incredible negative effects within our souls - especially when they are used as false
judgments against us.

Rejecting false judgments and the lies they impart, is an important step we can take
towards receiving healing in our souls.

Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to show you where you have encountered False
Judgments in your life, write them down and then pray the prayer below.

“In Jesus name, I break the false judgments of (here verbally list the false judgments you have
written down) spoken to or against me, and declare them all null and void.

I decree that they are crushed, broken and removed and have no more power over me or my life. I
cut myself free from all of their negative effects over my mind, will, emotions and body. I break any
negative cycles these words may have set in motion in my life.

I also cut ties to those who have spoken them over me, closing any open channels and release
those people into the hands of Jesus Christ.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, I now decree the truth of God’s word over my life, that I am the
righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, holy, set apart, worthy and beloved by God.

Lord Jesus, I ask you now to come and fill every place that has now been emptied with your
healing and truth. In Jesus name I pray, Amen."
SOUL TIES

Soul ties are just what they sound like. Negative Ties we have within our minds, wills and
emotions to other people in our lives. These "ties" can form on a spiritual level with other
people and act like a conduit allowing negative emotions, blocks and even spirits to flow
back and forth between our lives and theirs.

Soul ties can be formed between family members, friends and/or lovers because we have
bonded with them either on an emotional or physical level.

For example, Scripture clearly states in 1 Corinthians 6:16-18 that sex outside of marriage
forms a bond (a soul tie) that acts to keep a person in bondage. Many times, Soul ties can
keep us emotionally bound to people in our lives who are no longer present.

Jesus came to give us true freedom, this includes freedom from bondage to man and his
attempts to control. When we pray to break any ungodly soul ties, it brings healing to our
souls and and removes emotional bondage and control from our lives.

Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to bring to mind anyone you may have a
subconscious soul tie with that needs to be broken. Then pray the prayer below and allow
God to bring healing into that area of your life.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to you, in Jesus' name, and repent for allowing any control or
bondage in my life through soul ties. I renounce all use of soul power and allowing myself to be
controlled or manipulated in any way.

I loose myself from all control, emotional bondage and any evil spirits that may have come from
(Here name the person) I now ask you, Lord Jesus, to permanently break, severe and destroy any
soul tie, bonds or cords of iniquity between me and (name the person again)

I take back all rights to my body, to my soul, and to my spirit. I reclaim all the parts of myself that were
connected to (name this person) and I release all parts of (name the other person).

I ask you Lord by the Power of your Spirit to break break any psychic or telepathic links between me
and them and I loose the blood of Jesus to where these ties were connected so they can never be
reconnected.

I command all evil spirits that may have come from this connection to leave me now and never
return. I pray all of this in Jesus Holy and Precious name, Amen.
FORGIVENESS PRAYER

In the Bible we are commanded to forgive those who have trespassed against us because
we have been forgiven by God for our trespasses against Him in Jesus Christ. But for many
of us, forgiveness can still be difficult.

It is important to understand that forgiveness does not mean that we have to re-establish
relationship or trust with the other person. It is never about putting ourselves back into any
type of dangerous or abusive situation and its not about letting the abuser without
consequences.

Forgiveness is a spiritual act that is all about our personal freedom. It is a bondage-
breaking experience we are able to receive within our souls.

Forgiveness releases us from carrying the burden of the other person's actions and offense
against us by placing that person and offense into the hands of Jesus. This breaks the
negative bondage between us, freeing us to be healed and enables the other person to
meet the perfect justice and judgment of God.

Forgiveness frees us to be made whole within our minds, wills and emotions while keeping
us safe within God's hands.

Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit if there is someone you need to forgive. If so, be
willing to let the bondage go. Praying the prayer below can help.

“Lord Jesus, you have shown the way of forgiveness for myself and others. Please help me in this
moment to truly forgive (here name the person).

I choose, by an act of my will, to lay down the burden of carrying their offense and the hurt they have
caused me. ( here list the offense and the hurt that has been caused)

I release all of this into your hands, trusting in your perfect judgment. (here lift your hands up to God,
releasing these things physically)

Now Lord Jesus please come and heal every wound with your perfect love. Please remove any
lingering negative effects, bitterness, emotional and physical pain and/or evil spirits that may have
lodged in any place or part of my soul because of this trespass.

Lord I now receive your healing and peace. Please help me to move forward in your grace. In Jesus
Holy name I pray, Amen.
A FEW THINGS TO REMEMBER

Hopefully now you have a better understanding of the difference between living from the
Spirit and from the soul. As you can see, it is process that I am sure God will make clear as
you continue to move forward on your journey.

I want to leave you with a few personal thoughts to consider that have helped me
significantly here on my journey as you continue your own process.

1) In the Kingdom, its God’s job to protect you – its not your job to protect yourself. This
means that as we walk through our journey we have to learn to turn our battles over to God.
If its our job to always be protecting ourselves, then we are being self reliant and trying to be
in control and we are then no longer relying on the protecting love that God has promised
us in Christ. When we are self-reliant we restrict what God can do in our lives. When we
continually find ourselves in defense mode, we need to take a step back and ask God to
take over the reins and let Him deal with the enemy and circumstances the way He desires.
God always knows what is best for us and the quickest way forward. We should always be
getting our strategy from Him first before we respond to anything in Life. God has called you
to live a life here of influence, not war-there is a difference.

2) Focus to living your life from a place of peace. The more you practice peace in your
daily life the more you will have the peace of Christ that surpasses understanding invade
every area of your life. Learning to live from a place of peace will also help you get past the
soul blocks to hearing God's voice and direction more easily. Remember that the peace of
Christ is also a powerful weapon that acts as a form of protection for us in daily life.

3) Continue to ask God to show you the differences between the soul and the Spirit in
your life. As you grow you will be able to quickly discern the truth of it not only in yourself but
also in others. This understanding will help you as you navigate life and people and stay
focused on being the light that God has called you to be.

And finally, always remember that you are chosen for His purpose and Joy and are always
deeply loved and accepted by God in Christ Jesus.

"So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power
to separate us from God’s love. I’m convinced that his love will triumph over death,
life’s troubles, fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our
present or future circumstances that can weaken his love. There is no power above us
or beneath us—no power that could ever be found in the universe that can distance
us from God’s passionate love, which is lavished upon us through our Lord Jesus, the
Anointed One!"
