The project is located at Engracia L. Valdomar National High School, Barangay
Mabuhay, General Santos City.
The Engracia L. Valdomar National High School (ELVNHS) is a community high school located at
Purok 3, Barangay Mabuhay, General Santos City. It started as Lagao National High School -
Mabuhay Annex on June 1996 and became an independent high school on February 1998.
Originally, it was served and developed by only 10 teachers who all came from the mother school,
Lagao National High School, with Mr. Francisco M. Espinosa, as the Teacher-in-Charge. At present,
the school has 1,400 learners, 47 teachers excluding the non-teaching and Administrative
personnel, and offers Junior High School and Senior High School.
Currently, Engracia L. Valdomar National High School is considered as one of the big schools
in the DepEd Division of General Santos City. It has several Special Programs intended to provide a
venue wherein students’ diverse interests, talents and skills are catered, honed and developed. The
programs being offered are the Special Education, Regular Basic Education Curriculum and our
Saturday Class, Open High School Program (OHSP). The development can be accredited to the
tireless efforts of the School Administration and the support of its ever-active stakeholders in the
community.
The School Friendly environment is being promoted in each school to ensure safety and
welcoming vibe of the school campus. It is not just speak of aesthetic appeal but of safety and
conducive environment. Hence, this project is for preparation for the face to face when time permits
soon.
They come into school knowing that they’re worth something because someone took the time
to take care of a place they call home for eight or more hours of the day. Along with encouraging
students to be more involved in their school day, beautification teaches students how to be more
respectful of the environment and to clean up after themselves. As the community sees how well
treated their nearby school is, a sense of pride will begin to consume the community.
It is on this note that the school is asking for support from its stakeholders to get involve in
fundraising through solicitation in kind or cash. The implementation of this project is set starting
November as challenged by the SDS Romelito G. Flores to do it within three months. The school
also hopes to find volunteers especially with skills in landscaping to the job for either weekend or
after-school beautification.
Beautification is a key aspect of community development, and it can be an easy way to bring
people together. The dictionary defines beautification as a process of making visual improvements
in a certain place. This often involves planting trees, shrubbery, and other greenery. And each one
will take good care of the school inside and outside of the campus.
In connection with this, the Grade 8 Curriculum is asking for support to fix and beautify the
area in front of the building as they experienced overflowing of water due to heavy rain and that is
inconvenient for the learners and teachers.
1. To enhance the physical surroundings of the school by removing grafitti from the walls,
picking up litter and garbage and even planting new trees and flowers for a clean and
attractive learning environment.
2. To provide a unique and relevant teaching-learning opportunity that learners could learn
about history of the school and the surrounding area, biodiversity of the school grounds or
the correct way to apply paint for the murals.
3. To enhance the children’s learning by tying the beautification project into the school’s
academic curriculum.
4. To develop learners’ leadership skills to take responsibility in the planning and conduct of
the beautification project and that participating in the project can instill a sense of pride
and ownership for the school in the learners.
5. To develop a heightened awareness of the learners for the environmental issues
surrounding the school community.
6. To build community relationships by involving different individuals/groups in the project,
starting with the internal stakeholders, the school community of teachers, learners and
support staff and moving outward the external stakeholders, the parents, the SGC, the
barangay officials and the local organizations.
