CHAPTERI

Backgroundofthestudy

Problems with mosquitoes have been recorded since before and were proven by

the Department of Health (DOH) as a constant problem in the Philippines. A series of

diseases is also influencing the mortality rate of people because of the high recorded

death rate due to dengue and malaria, the common diseases that mosquitoes bring into

the community. Kids and adults are at risk, but people have a big role in the spread of

mosquitoes. The people not being aware of the garbage problem is the main reason for

the quick multiplication of mosquitoes. People have found some solutions to put an end

to the numerous problems that mosquitoes are bringing to the community. There are

some invented mosquito repellents that target putting an end to the number of

mosquitoes in the environment; however, some of these repellents are dangerous to

health, and there are some that are neither economically friendly nor environmentally

friendly.

The researchers studied the effects of Madre de Cacao (Gliricidia sepium),

guava leaves extract (Psidium guajava), and natural vinegar (Dilute acetic acid) on

mosquito larvae in an effort to assist the government in combating the disease and

eliminating mosquito carriers. According to studies, the plant Madre de Cacao acts as

an insect repellent and has the potential to eliminate a variety of insects that can carry a

variety of diseases. Commercial and manmade chemicals are still widely used to

eliminate pests that are potential carriers and are pricey. Because of the dangers of

high-toxic chemical compounds, the researchers became interested in employing

natural pesticides derived from plants as a means of pest control, which led to the

creation of this study. The main objective of the study was to determine the

guajava), and natural vinegar (Dilute acetic acid) in eradicating mosquito wrigglers

(Culicidae diptera).

The primary goal of the researchers is to develop a mosquito repellent that will

resolve the undying problem with mosquitoes and the deadly diseases they may cause

in the environment. The researchers also aim to ensure that mosquito repellent doesn't

harm the environment, as, as mentioned in this study, mosquito repellent is chemically

unhealthy for people and slowly kills the environment. On the other hand, a secure and

mosquito-free environment shouldn't be expensive. Those reasons were considered by

the researchers in formulating this study. The aim is to create a mosquito repellent that

will not be expensive and should be organic in order to not harm the environment or the

people in the community.

This study will be a great help to the people of the community, and it may also

eradicate the mosquito wrigglers and the problems they bring now and then. This will

also help and can serve as a source of income for other households, as the creation of

madre de cacao leaf extract, guava leaf extract, and natural vinegar does not cost much

money and can provide extra income to the people of the community. It's like creating a

solution to a particular problem that will give so many benefits in the process of

implementing these ideas in the community.

Statementoftheproblem

This study will be conducted to determine if madre de cacao leaves extract, guava

leaves extract are effective in eradicating mosquito wrigglers. In order to achieve the

general objective of the study, the researchers have gathered data and information

which aims to answer the following questions:

Significanceofthestudy

Thisresearchwillbenefitthfollowingpeople:

1. Environmental Health Professional- The results of the study will provide basic

knowledge and information on the components of Madre de cacao leaf extract,

guava leaf extract, and natural vinegar solution as a potential mosquito larvicide. It

will direct environmental health workers toward other methods of reducing the

number of mosquitoes in the neighborhood and preventing certain mosquito-borne

diseases.

2. Medical Practitioner- The study's findings will provide these people with

basicknowledge and information about the potential use of natural pesticides,

specifically Madre de cacao, in eradicating mosquito larvae, as well as its utility in

eradicating other similar pests that may cause various diseases.

3. Government- The findings of this study will help reduce government spending on

mosquito eradication.

4. Community- This study will benefit the community by providing them with a less

expensive and more effective mosquito larvae repellent and increasing their

awareness of the importance of Madre de Cacao as an alternative larvicide. This

study will provide people with a natural and inexpensive mosquito larvicide

derived from madre de cacao leaves extract, guava leaves extract, and a natural

vinegar solution. This solution will help reduce the number of victims of the Zika

virus, dengue fever, and malaria in the community, particularly in mosquito-prone

areas.

Scope,Limitationanddelimitationofthestudy

The research focus on efficiency of Madre de Cacao leaf extract, guava leaf

extract, and natural vinegar on mosquito wrigglers. Effective Madre de Cacao leaf

extract, guava leaf extract, and natural vinegar on mosquito wrigglers about the

properties present in guava leaf extract, and natural vinegar on mosquito wrigglers that

makes the product effective and how acceptable the produced product in terms of

appearance,odor,effectiveness.

The study will scope the problems that the mosquito brings to the community and

the possible solutions that can be used to add a strategy to the current study's

effectiveness. It will also have the scope to directly address the problems caused by

other mosquito repellents in the environment, with the intent that the creation of Madre

de Cacao leaf extract, guava leaf extract, and natural vinegar for use on mosquito

wrigglers will be a great option for a mosquito product that is organic and will not harm

the environment.

The investigation was limited to utilizing only mosquitoes since mosquito

wrigglers (culicidae diptera) require days or weeks to create an unpleasant odor. The

extracts from guava leaves (psidium guajava), Madre de cacao leaves (gliricidia

sepium), and natural vinegar were likewise limited by their expiration dates (diluted

acetic acid).
