This time, we are going to have an activity. Are you


familiar with the game “4 Pics 1 Word”?
Yes, we are, sir!
I will show you two sets of pictures (with four
pictures per set). I want you to guess the word that
best describes the pictures. But this time, we will Students perform the activity
integrate it with another game called the “Genius
Cap”. This would the flow of the game: the first
student on the left side will wear the cap and pass it
on her/his right side as the music plays. Once the
music stops, the one who is wearing the cap will
guess the word.

This morning, we will be discussing “Word Stress”.


But let me just clarify, class that we are not referring
here to “stress” as a mental condition (not as shown
in the second set of pictures) but as one of the
Prosodic Features of Speech.

Class, at the end of this lesson, you should be able to:

For your activity, you will be grouped in to five (5). Students perform the activity

Class, stress is the mark or sound we put on or give a


word or syllable to make it stand out of the group.
Syllable is the natural division of the word when it is
pronounced.

The mark that we are using to indicate stress on a


word is called stress mark.

Class, there are words also that have definite rules of Students will study first the words and identify the
stress. I’ll be giving you some sets of examples and I rules applied in each set of examples.
