PR-QUIZ-NO.1
I. DIRECTION: Answer the following items given below. Write B if both statements are
true, S if both statements are false, C if the first statement is true, and the second
statement is false and E if the first statement is false, and the second statement is
true. RIGHT MINUS WRONG (2 points each)
2. Using radioactivity for dating was first attempted in 1905 and has been
refined ever since. Geologists are now able to assign fairly accurate dates
to events in Earth history (for example, we know that the dinosaurs died
out about 65 million years ago).
3. Using the principles of relative dating, the placing of events in their proper
sequence or order without knowing their age in years, scientists
developed a geologic time scale during the 18th century. Relative dates
can be established by applying such principles as the law of superposition
and the principles of fossil succession.
4. All science is based on the assumption that the natural world behaves in a
consistent and predictable manner. The process by which scientists gather
facts and formulate scientific hypotheses and theories is called scientific
method.
7. Two principal division of Earth’s surface are the continents and ocean
basins and the significant difference between them is their relative level.
The elevation differences between continents and ocean basins are
primarily the result of differences in their respective densities and
thicknesses.
8. There are two distinct types of plate boundaries: (1) divergent boundaries,
where plates move apart; and (2) convergent boundaries, where plates
collide and which occurs when the leading edges are made of
continental crust. The theory of plate tectonics provides a comprehensive
model of Earth’s internal workings that holds that Earth’s rigid outer core
consists of several segments called lithospheric plates that are slowly and
continually in motion relative to one another.
10. A system is a group of interacting parts that form a complex whole: (1)
closed systems are those in which energy moves freely in and out, but
matter doe not enter or leave the system; and (2) open system wherein
both energy and matter flow into and out of the system. The two sources
of energy that power the Earth system are (1) the Sun, which drives the
external processe that occur in the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and at
Earth’s surface, and (2) heat from Earth’s interior that powers the internal
processes that produce volcanoes, earthquakes, and mountains.
II. DIRECTION: Separate the letters in each line, without rearranging the letters, to
spell two words. Then, differentiate the words accordingly. Work carefully. (4 points
each)
