Text Messaging: Its Perceived effect on Grammar and Spelling Proficiency

Statement of the problem:

The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of text messaging on student grammar and
spelling proficiency.

It tackles and answers the following questions:

1. What are the common factors that hinder spelling and grammar literacy in text messaging
(ano yung factors na nakakacontribute bakit mas pinipili nilang gumamit ng shortened words sa text message)
2. How do texters differentiate formal and informal text
3. What are the texting/messaging tools that are commonly used
4. Why does texting enables students to use too much abbreviation and /or turning words into
abbreviation as well as slangs and or jargon words.

Significance of study:

This study will be significant in:

1. Lessening grammatical errors and misspelled words in formal paragraphs and sentences
used in control environment
2. Educations students in a way of making a proper text messaging as a practice ground for
proficiency and English literacy
Possible OBJECTIVE of the study

To analyze the positive and negative aspects of the text messaging on student grammar and
spelling proficiency.

POSITIVE ASPECTS:

 It improves language skills and emotional relief

 It enhance learning

 We get to interact with people, their views , and their knowledge.

NEGATIVE ASPECTS:

 Most people claim that texting makes teen lazy because it doesn‟t force them to use proper

grammar and spellings.

 Sometimes, teenagers write the way they text as it becomes permanently stored in their brain.

 Errors in spelling are also seen in examination papers.
