“ISAN REGION”
ISAN Isan got its name in honor of the
Hindu god of death.

The main city is Khorat. The Mekong

River valley separates the region
from its neighbour, Laos. Most of its
people are ethnically Lao and are
known for their hospitality. lsan has
many national parks for trekking.
If you came to Isan, you should visit Khao
Yai National Park. Khao Yai National Park
is the largest and one of the most visited
parks in Thailand. Khauyai lies on the
way from Bangkok to Korat, so it is
convenient to combine the study of the
park with a tour of the historical parks of
the region.

Isan cuisine is famous for eating a wide

variety of creatures, such as lizards, frogs
and fried insects, such as grasshoppers,
crickets, silkworms and dung beetles.
Initially forced to be creative in finding
food due to poverty, the Isan people now
enjoy these animals as a treat or snack.
The main tourist attractions are the Khmer ruins
and hiking trails in the Khao Yai National Park.
The four big festivals of the northeast also
attract impressive crowds. In May, a rocket
festival is held in Yasothon; in late June – early
July, the Phi Ta Kon Rain Calling Festival is
held in Dan Sai, next to Loei; in July, Ubon
Ratchathani holds an extravagant candle
festival, and bright, although With the
inevitable crowds of tourists, the "elephant
festival" can be seen in November in Surin.
