MOVIE- ‘Angelo Partha mayakam’ (The delight of having seen it before)

The hastily developing discipline of psychology aids in the screening, diagnosing, interviewing, and remedying
of mental disorders in complete swing. However, the fundamental criminal troubles in medical psychology
encompass confidentiality and boundary issues between the client and therapist. The boundary problem in
psychological practices is a significant affair which calls for immediate supervision. Despite nicely set up moral
codes, severe results of ethical violation of limitations remain extremely difficult to date. In a Tamil short film,
‘Angelo Partha mayakam’ (The delight of having seen it before) incorporates a new dimensional screenplay with
a novel idea of direction from a socio-cultural context.
Though this movie was a creative initiative with thousands of likes and comments, some major ethical violations
were displayed. The transference and countertransference complicated the professional relationship, leading to
the death of both the client and the clinical psychologist. The ethical violation of unnecessarily intruding into
the client’s personal life by meeting his girlfriend made the therapist develop an interest and feelings for the girl.
As a result, the psychologist tried an experiment on his client without any form of consent. The research
experiment was related to dream telepathy, where the psychologist telepathically intruded into the client’s dreams
and spent time with the client’s girlfriend through his client’s dream itself. Since the client was a diagnosed
schizophrenic patient, this dream telepathy affected his brain, making him visualize the events even before they
happened. Accordingly, one fine day the client could visualize a concealed danger of his girlfriend meeting with
an accident. At that fraction of realization, he pushes her away and, unfortunately, loses his life. Knowing the loss
of the client, the psychologist weeps over the loss of his friend (client) and is guilty of it. The psychologist writes
a letter to the client’s girlfriend explaining all this in the letter, he says about his decision to take his life due to
guilt. The story ends as the girlfriend weeps in confusion and despair. Social media, being the central platform
for spreading awareness and establishing public opinion, would be appreciated if they release films that are well
researched or at least attach a disclaimer. The inference of the film is that the ethical issue of transference and
countertransference act as the significant impact of the consequences in the storyline. Experimenting with
research on a person diagnosed with schizophrenia without informed consent or approval by RCI
(Rehabilitation council of India) is another major ethical violation. Another aspect of identification was the critical
evaluation would be the instability of the unhealed part or pattern of the psychologist, which led to the unethical
practice of dealing with the client. These are the possible connections between the inferences made from the short
film and the existing ethical guidelines and principles in APA (American Psychiatric Association). The evidence
references are mentioned in the reference list to support the explanation and inferences made
