Scientific questions and objectives

natural thermal springs (Tata, Esztergom, Almásneszmély)

the effect of the mine water-abstraction on the karst flow system
refilling of the karst system after the mine closure
drinking water abstractions (Tatabánya, Dorog)
utilizations (cold and thermal) on the Area
spa-utilizations (Esztergom, Komárom, Šturovo, Patince) and its
future on the Pilot Area
geothermal utilizations in the near future – expoitable
geothermal energy
The conceptual model

1st phase: a steady state model needed (without abstraction)

karst flow paths: from SE, S NW and then E, ESE

Conclusion and further tasks

the natural flow system has been understood by the

help of the modelling:
low temperatures are resulted due to the intensive
flow system in the karst aquifer
higher water temperatures exists in the deeper
part of the aquifer (NW part of the PA) and the end
of the flow paths (Tata, Patince, Esztergom,
Sturovo)
Conclusion and further tasks

2nd phase: transient model building

evaluation of the refilling of the karst system by the help of
the modelling – eg. regeneration of the springs
avoid the demages of the existing buildings
the state of the groundwater dependent ecosystems is
the most important issue in this area (eg. Tata)
evaluation of the further utilization in the area – drinking
water abstraction, geothermal possibilities etc.
