Procedures – students will line up outside at the door. Students are expected to be in a straight
line, not talking before entering the music room. When students are ready, teacher will instruct
students to remove shoes and sit on the carpet in front of the stage.
Activity 1 – Music packets. You can ask for helpers to pass out – pencils, clipboards, and
packets. Students can work together in pairs if students work quietly. For pages 1 and 2 of
packet, students need to match up the syllables of the word with the written rhythm. Ex on first
page – “Ground Beef” equals 2 quarter notes (2nd box top right) “Pep-pe-ro-ni” would be 4
eighth notes (first box top left). Have students write name on top and hand in packets when
finished.
Activity 2 - If there is still time left you can hand out the “Keep the Beat 3” body percussion
worksheet. Students should work in pairs only and focus on figuring out the finger snaps and
hand claps parts. These worksheets should be returned at the end of class.
Cleanup-have students help pick up pencils, put away clipboards and hand in their work in a
neat pile on desk.
Dismissal - Instruct students to put shoes, line up and walk to their next class.
Space out 10 colored circles on the floor in a circle before students arrive.
Procedures: Kindergarten will line up outside. When they are in a straight line and quiet,
instruct them to go inside, remove shoes and coats and then to sit on a circle. If the circles
become a distraction to students – students start to do anything other than sit on the circles,
issue a warning, ask them to place the circles underneath them or you will take it away.
(Thomas may need to have his circle taken away)
Cleanup- Allow 5 minutes for cleanup. Again, ask for helpers to put things away including
collecting the colored circles.
Dismissal - Have students put shoes and coats on and line up at the door. Their teacher will
come get them.
I’ve left instructions on the white board. This project is due at the end of class next Monday.
Students are allowed to use either the school iMac’s, a personal iPad or MacBook. iPhones are
not permitted for this project. Oona was absent when we started so please instruct her to
choose a group to work with.
If the MIDI keyboard is not working, make sure to highlight the MIDI track. If a track using a
loop is highlighted or selected, the MIDI keyboard will not work.
If you are still having problems, create a new MIDI track. Go to: Track – New Track – Software
Instrument – Create.
This will automatically give you a piano MIDI track but you can change the sounds from your
library located on the left hand side. If you close your sound library and want to reopen it, click
on library icon.
