Career Naksha Short Internship Project

Task 1: Basics of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)

1) Why is it necessary to investigate AD?
2) What are the major problems AD patients face?
3) How AD is caused, and what is the probable mechanism?
4) How to cure AD, what Challenges and probable solutions?
5) What is the Central Dogma in Biology?
Write a brief report on AD including answers to the above questions.

Task 2: (a) Basics of NCBI and Databases (b) Investigating Genes

involved in AD using GenBank
1) What is a query? List Five databases and their uses.
2) List Five Genes expressed in AD with their FASTA sequence, Organism,
and Respective database ID.
3) List all types of Information provided with a query in GenBank and their
uses.
Write a report answering all the questions.

Task 3: (a) BLAST of selected gene (b) BLAST in other organisms

1) Basics of BLAST
2) Types of BLAST and their importance.
3) Performing BLAST with selected Gene
4) BLAST in other Organisms
Write a report answering the First Two questions. Name the Gene selected
with its FASTA sequence. Name Genes with the highest identity in Rattus
BLAST using the selected Gene.

Task 4: (a) Transcription of Genes using translate tools (b)

Investigating ORF and Translation of the Gene
1) Generating mRNA of the Gene, Basics of UniProt
2) Generating Protein sequence using mRNA Sequence
3) Performing Protein sequence BLAST, Basics of PDB

About AD
 Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia.
 It is a progressive disease beginning with mild memory loss and possibly
leading to loss of the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to
the environment.
 Alzheimer’s disease involves parts of the brain that control thought,
memory, and language
 Can we develop markers for AD?
