Synopsis

Business Intelligence , Specific Reference to Business / Industries


1. Introduction to Study Next to Human capital is knowledge capital, which is the real asset for any organization / Industries. All Human resources in the organization / Industries are uses this knowledge capital for the benefit and growth of the organization. It is generally told Business Intelligence is the one technological tool, to extract knowledge capital from the best resource (data), for better and improved decision making. 2. The Problem Statement a. In todays highly competitive and global environment, retention of the experienced and old faithful employee has been considered as one of the most Important element. Job hobbling and Job switching are the order of the day. Today, depending on only human elements for decision making without the support of knowledge capital, is grossly impossible for the organization in the faster changing world. b. A preplanned step for building data warehousing and deploying Business Intelligence tool will help an organization to make better and informed decision. 3. Objectives of this Research The specific objectives are as follows:a. To address the Industries / enterprises, who has colossus of data built over a period of years, without being put into application or converting them into knowledge capital, for improved and informed decision. b. To find out the challenges of Top Management in industry / enterprises without appropriate knowledge capital, for their decision making and aligning the organization strategies and objectives in the dynamically changing world. c. To fulfill the vacuum created by the experienced human capital, the role of business intelligence would be able to deliver knowledge capital to the organization based on the historical data, thereby the organization will be able to quickly learn and sustain its marketing advantages vs its competitors 4. Significance of the study There is a dangerous trend in the industries and business community to take away the trained man power from one company to other company. Hence, the knowledge gained by such employees also move away from the organization. Hence it is important to have such knowledge within the company in the form of Data, information & knowledge so that the industries would now suffer on the exit of knowledgeable person, there by continuity of the business plan is ensure, in the short span. 5. Scope of the study

The present study covers the different aspects of Historical Data built over a period of decade with the industries/ enterprises and the challenges faced by the management, without its use.. This study is important in the perspective of top management in the fast changing and challenging environment due to globalization, integration of our economy with rest of the world on one hand and urbanization, privatization, financial reforms, competition from MNCs, local players, Life style management, exit of of resource persons etc on the other hand at national level. 6. Limitation of the study: a. The study and the research will be limited to the Coimbatore / Chennai only. b. The research will be carry out the typical and special characteristics of the Manufacturing / FMCG industry only. 7. The Methodology. The methodology which will be used for carrying out the report will be used as follows:Types of Data Source. For present research work, primary as well as secondary data will be used from the manufacturing / FMCG Industries. Research will be broadly classified into two sections. Qliktech Business Intelligence tools will be used to suggest and analyze the primary and secondary data of the organization / industries. Tools of collecting Primary Data: - The information will be collected directly from the Manufacturing industries (from IT department in concurrence with Top Management) a. Questionnaire and Surveys: - This will include range of response questions, close ended questions, providing limited answers to specific responses or on a Numeric scale. b. Interview: This will include people to interview, Develop the interview questions including open-ended questions and close ended questions and carefully eliminating leading questions. c. Sample Size: - The sample size of Manufacturing Industries, which includes: i. Data of 3 Indian Industries ii. Data of 3 FMCGs iii. Data of 3 SME (Small or Medium Enterprise) will be collected. e. Sampling Technique: - The study will be using Simple Random sampling. All these data will help in formulating as very comprehensive case study. All sample units will be personally contacted and interviewed.

Tools of collecting Secondary Data


Various statistical tools will also be used to analyze the secondary data. a. Document Review: - Obtaining the actual forms and operating documents currently being used. Reviews blank copies of forms and samples of actual completed forms. b. Observation: - analyzing annual reports and press releases, verifying the Statements made during the interviews.

c. Web Search: - The information related to out side region (other part of India and Globe) will be studied from internet to other published papers. d. Publications : Various Publications and reference book, journals, published data from time to time. e. Research of journals, periodicals, technical materials,, electronics/internet search, professionals meetings, seminars and discussions, site visits etc. f. Sampling like records, reports, operational logs, data entry documents, complaints, and various types of forms. 8. Hypothesis: a. No relationship between Historical Data usage with BI tool and the Top Management of the Company. b. No relationship exists between Data Usage and Decision making in the competitive environment. 9. Chapter Schema The following will be chapter schema of Research report.
