On 23 January 2023, at approximately 12:53 p.m., Des Moines Police Department patrol officers
and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel responded to investigate a report of a shooting
incident at 455 SW 5th Street, Starts Right Here, a charter school.

Officers arrived to find three persons injured. All three have been transported to local hospitals;
two in critical condition, and one in serious condition.

Approximately twenty minutes after the shooting incident, and two miles away, Des Moines Police
Department patrol officers and detectives took multiple suspects into custody following a traffic
stop.

Des Moines Police Department detectives are investigating this incident.

Media staging is on the public sidewalk in the 400 blk of SW 5th Street. The Public Information
Officer will return to the staging area at 3:00 p.m.
