Question: Her Majesty, the Queen was born in the twentieth century.

A period that saw enormous

social change driven by visionary and committed leaders. Reflect on an inspirational leader in this
period.

Margaret Thatcher
British being one of the biggest power is not out of sheer luck. Throughout the century,
they went through thick and thin surviving from crisis and conflicts with their inspirational leaders in
the frontline. As a woman myself, I am in awe of this person. Born in October 13 ,1925. She is from a
humble town, Lincolnshire, England as the daughter of a lovely couple, Alfred and Beatrice. The
blood of a leader is in her veins as her father was also a politician in Grantham as a town council
member for 16 years. This first female Prime Minister in the history, Margaret Thatcher was the
resolute ‘Iron Lady’, whose deeply personal mission bought us ‘Thatcherism’

Her political journey started after she successfully ran for the parliament in 1959,
introducing affirmed right to the media to cover local government meetings. Moving up the
ministerial rank, she became UK prime minister in 1975, at once became one of the most powerful
woman in the world. Thus, this beautiful woman led her country through golden age, by succeeding
in many crises. it was clear that the woman who had previously been jeered at now inspired
admiration and political fear in opponents and colleagues in equal measure. From the British public
she won three successive election victories – the first Prime Minister to do so in over 160 years.

“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, then you aren’t” with
that principle at heart, Margaret Thatcher debated a new ideology called “ Thatcherism ”, which
represent a systematic, decisive rejection and reversal of the post-war consensus, whereby the
major political parties largely agreed on the central themes of Keynesianism, the welfare state,
nationalised industry and close regulation of the British economy. While her policies are
continuously and keenly debated, Thatcher strive to embark on this journey to promote low
inflation, small states and free market in British economic policies.

Moreover, living up to her nickname, The Iron Lady, she continues to pursue on the path of
greatness and accomplished great feats in the Falkland War. Despite being a woman, she was a
highly capable and committed war leader. Thatcher set up a War Cabinet to oversee the conduct of
the war and by April 5, she authorized and dispatched a Naval Task Force to retake the island from
Argentina. Other than that, we should not forget the Cold War crisis. To bring a favourable
conclusion to the Cold War, she played a major role as a broker between Reagan and Gorbachev
leading to the successful negotiation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Force Treaty.

To summarize, it is as clear as crystal, Thatcher is a formidable and astounding person on

par with her reputation. Recognized by the Queen, she received countless rewards honouring her as
the exemplary of a leader should be. As she quoted herself, “Leadership is about having principle. A
leader must have a vision and principles that will endure for all time and must always be true to
these principles, applying them to changing circumstances”
