What is It

PERENNIAL COMMUNITY HEALTH PROBLEMS

Different perennial problems happen to the different regions of the country.

They vary according to factors like: economy, politics, geography, culture, and
social context. There are places which experience community health
problems like;
 water-borne and communicable diseases
 armed conflicts
 natural disasters
 highly urbanized zones
 overpopulated areas.
In this regard, the government has created an office which would be in charge
of planning and implementing rules and regulations to address the above-
mentioned community health problems. One of its programs is Solid Waste
Management Program that helps lessen the amount of refuse in our country.

6
 Garbage decomposes rapidly, particularly in warm weather and
quickly produce disagreeable odors. It has some commercial value as
animal food.
 Rubbish – Variety of combustible and non-combustible solid wastes .
 Dead animals are lifeless dogs, cats, pigs, chicken and other animals
which die from diseases or accidents.
 Stable manure includes animal waste s from barns, stables or the like.
 Street night soil consists of human waste, normally wrapped and thrown
into sidewalks and streets. It also includes human waste from the pail
system.
 Yard cuttings are those leaves, branches, grass, and other similar
materials made during cleaning of gardens and typhoon aftermaths.

Solid waste management refers to the discipline associated with the:

 control of generation
 storage collection
 transfer and transport
 processing
 disposal of solid waste.

According to RA No. 9003, there are many ways to do solid waste

management, a highly recommended formula is to adopt the 3R’s of
Ecological Waste Management: REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE.

In addition, let us refrain from doing what has been prohibited under the law.
These includes;
(1) Littering, throwing, dumping of waste matters in public places, such as
roads, sidewalks, canals, esteros or parks, and establishment, or causing or
permitting the same;

7
(2) Undertaking activities or operating, collecting or transporting equipment
in violation of sanitation operation and other requirements or permits set forth
in or established pursuant to this Act;
(3) The open burning of solid waste;

(4) Causing or permitting the collection of non-segregated or unsorted waste;

(5) Squatting in open dumps and landfills;
(6) Open dumping, burying of biodegradable or non-biodegradable
materials in flood-prone areas;
(7) Unauthorized removal of recyclable material intended for collection by
authorized persons;

(8) The mixing of source-separated recyclable material with other solid waste
in any vehicle, box, container or receptacle used in solid waste collection or
disposal;
(9) Establishment or operation of open dumps as enjoined in this Act, or
closure of said dumps in violation of Sec. 37;

(10) The manufacture, distribution or use of non-environmentally acceptable

packaging materials;

(11) Importation of consumer products packaged in non-environmentally

acceptable materials;
(12) Importation of toxic wastes misrepresented as “recyclable” or “with
recyclable content”;

What I Can Do 3

A. SONG IRONY. The song, “Anak ng Pasig” is a reminder to all Filipinos that we
sometimes neglect our environment. People tend to satisfy their needs and wants at
the expense of our habitat.
The activity Song Irony is based from the song, “Anak ng Pasig.” Compose the
irony message of the song “Anak ng Pasig” using the same melody. Turn the
negative lyrics into something positive. You can record your output if you wish to,
and you may upload it on any social media platform, just don’t forget to
acknowledge the original singer.
Example: Tapon doon, tapon dito ----- Reduce doon, Reuse dito.
You can write your composition on another sheet.

Anak Ng Pasig Anak ng Pasig naman kayo

Composed by: Ryan Cayabyab Kalat doon, kalat dito

Kalat doon, kalat dito Kalat doon, kalat dito

Portfolio Completion – Your Growth Clue!

You now go back to your portfolio and work on the other components that
follow your Goal Setting. Remember that your portfolio is a deliberate collection of
your works with the help of the exemplar. Highlighting your efforts here enables you to
see and reflect on your growth and achievement and your ability to establish goals
just to learn. Upon completion of your portfolio, please be guided of the rubric below.

WEEKLY PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT

Health 9
My Weekly Goal Record. This is a record of your positive, realistic goals at the
beginning of the week. By the end of the week, you will evaluate completion or non-
completion of the goals you set.
You may organize it this way:

Weekly Goals of Juan dela Cruz, Grade 7 Section Rizal

PLANS Date: ___________________

During this week, I plan to achieve the following:

1)
2)
3)
4)
Note: There is no limit as to how many plans you wish to set for the week. The objectives
reflected in the “What I Need to Know” of the exemplar could help you conceptualize
your plans. Remember: Do not proceed with the exemplar unless you have listed your
goals.
ACHIEVEMENTS Date: _____________________

During the week, I achieved all the above goals, except:

 No. 3

(Example) Although this goal wasn’t achieved, I could say that I did half of it
because even though I didn’t find anything much that will be of use to me, I
still discovered a lot of new things that were unknown to me before. I read the
suggested readings by my teacher in the exemplar and discovered facts. I
expect to find use for them someday.
Note: This should be done when you are through with the exemplar, ideally at the end of
the week.

2. My Test Self-Evaluation. This is a reflection of your performance in the summative
assessments (“What I Have Learned”). This will reflect your honest accomplishment of
the assessment. Choose one (1) from among the summative tests in the different
exemplars and paste the test paper in your portfolio for the test self-evaluation. Be
guided with the following questions:
a. What general topic was covered by the test?
b. How did I prepare for the test?
c. What have I learned?
d. What do I need to improve?
e. How might have I prepared more efficiently?
f. Am I satisfied with my performance? Why?

You may organize it this way:

may choose from either the formative assessments (What I Can Do 1, 2 &
3) or summative assessments (What I Have Learned) and paste your test
result on a page in your portfolio. You may add art elements (e.g. emojis
or emoticons) to reflect your feelings about the test.

5. My Creative Connection. This is an opportunity for you to share your

creative or analytical side. It may be in any form (poem, comic strip,
poster, game, puzzle, etc) as long as it is YOUR work and related to the
lessons for the week.

Rubric for Portfolio Assessment. Aside from acting as your guide in portfolio
completion, you also need to put the rubric for portfolio assessment. Please see the
