    The Giant Panda, also known as Ailuropoda melanoleuca, is a bear native to central China.

    It
    has black and white fur, with black fur around the eyes, ears, and on its legs and shoulders,
    while the rest of its fur is white. It is a herbivore and feeds mostly on bamboo, but also eats
    fruits, vegetables and small mammals. Giant pandas are considered a national symbol in
    China and are listed as a critically endangered species. The population of wild giant pandas
    is estimated to be around 1,800, with around 300 living in zoos worldwide. The main threats
    to the giant panda population are habitat loss and fragmentation, as well as poaching.
    Conservation efforts have been successful in increasing the number of wild giant pandas,
    but the species is still considered to be at risk of extinction.
