Question l: Write down the differences between vacuum tube & transistor.Write some examples
of semiconductor materials.
Answer:
1.The vacuum tube is an electron tube from which all or most of the gas has been removed,
permitting electrons to move with no or low interaction with any remaining gas molecules.
A transistor is a device that conducts a variable amount of electricity through it, depending on
how much electricity is input to it.
Compared to the vacuum tube, transistors were much smaller, faster and cheaper to
manufacture. They were also far more reliable and used much less power. Electronic tubes cannot

be integrated, while transistors can be integrated on a large scale The function of the electron
tube is mainly as a signal amplifier, and the transistor is a kind of multi-functional electronic
device.
2.Silicon ，Germanium etc.
Question 2: What are the different types of memory devices? Write the differences between RAM
& ROM.
Answer:
1.U disk, Floppy ,Disk ， Hard disk.
2.RAM can read and write at any time, and very fast. For ROM, data can only be written and
cannot be modified. In the other hand, RAM has less space than ROM.

CAD, EDA, VHDL, PLA, FPGA, MIPS, ALU
Answer:
CAD： Computer Aided Design;
EDA： Electronics Design Automation;
VHDL: Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language;
PLA: Programmable Logic Array;
FPGA: Field Programmable Gate Array;
MIPS: Million Instructions Per Second;
ALU: Arithmetic and Logic Unit.
