Question 1: Write down the differences between vacuum tube &

transistor. Write some examples of semiconductor materials.

The differences between vacuum tube and transistor:

(1)The vacuum tube is an electron tube, but the transistor is a device, in

other words, it is a digital switch.
(2)Unlike the vacuum tube, the transistor is solid state which means it
doesn’t change its physical form as it switches. There are no moving
parts in a transistor.
(3)Compared to the vacuum tube, transistors were much smaller, faster
and cheaper to manufacture. They were also far more reliable and used
much less power.

The example of semiconductor material:Silicon, carbon, germanium.

Question 2: What are the different types of memory devices? Write the
differences between RAM & ROM.

(1)The different types of memory devices: SRAM, DRAM, ROM,

EEPROM.
(2)The differences between RAM & ROM:

RAM ROM

Volatile memory Non volatile

Date in ram is not permanently Permanently, not erased

written when power off, date deleted

RAM: DRAM & SRAM ROM: PROM & EPPROM

It requires flow of electricity to It does not require electricity to

retain date. retain date.

RAM is the memory available forROM is the memory that comes

Question 3: Write down the full form: CAD, EDA, VHDL, PLA, FPGA,
MIPS, ALU

(1)CAD: Computer Aided Design.

(2) EDA: Electronic Design Automatic.
(3) VHDL: VHSIC Hardware Description Language.
(4) PLA: Programmable Logic Array.
(5) FPGA: Field Programmable Gate Array.
(6) MIPS: Million Instructions Per Second.
(7) ALU: Arithmetic Logical Unit.
