Wikipedia
It is platform of web resources and free content is available in public domain it is non-profit
organization which is presenting a bundle of various segment and provides free knowledge in
public domain. Example, the site is consisting of wiki common, wiki data like that so many
platforms are available which are ready source of information about various segment of knowledge
domain.
In this encyclopedia you just type in search bar. You will get it that to with the list of references at
end of article, at end of article. The articles written by someone and edited by many other.

How to Contribute to Wikipedia

• Create a Wikipedia account. Account creation might not require however, if you register
for an account, you will be given more privileges than a non-registered user.
• You can expand the subjects there.
• You can add a photo.
• Write a new article.
• Removes spam.
• Do some maintenance.
• Revert vandalism (The act of editing the project in a malicious manner that is intentionally
disruptive) Now let’s discuss steps to creating a Wikipedia page.

Steps to creating a Wikipedia page

• Do your research first. Before creating any content on Wikipedia, learn about the
Wikipedia community and how it works. ...
• Create an account.
• Start small.
• Gather your sources.
• Write the copy.
• Submit the page for review.
Creating Wikipedia page is not free, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR HAVING WIKI PAGE:
Cost can range anywhere from $250 to $3,000; however, most Wikipedia articles fall
within the $400 to $800 range. Wikipedia’s beauty is that whatever is there you can take
them because it is in public domain provided you give attribution.

MOODLE
Moodle is a learning management system LMS. (https://moodle.org).Moodle provide various
MOOC courses on their platform. There are two categories courses
• Which you can download
• Which you can enroll.
You can search courses by adding keywords on website. You can also enroll using module cloud
and have your own website to develop a course. In Moodle cloud you can create your own learning
environment and it is very easy and user friendly.

It is simple and maintenance free, auto updated it is flexible and affordable. Affordable means up
to 50 users it is free, if more than 50 user you have to pay. Still it is good to learn in small learning
group specially for PG students.
So, Moodle cloud for a quick overview you can generate your own website is Moodle cloud we
are having one in the Moodle. You have to enter Moodle site name and you can develop your own
course in platform. Platform is very user friendly. In the course you can see variety of content can
be given it may be a link to a book, ppt, word file, quiz and various king of evaluation assessment
techniques, grading techniques available there.

SLIDE SHARE
Here you can upload your ppt there and can download required file from slide share. Slide share
platform is meant for discussion, sharing and learning. Like other platform you can register here,
you can plan or develop your own PowerPoint presentation and can upload it there in your domain
or in your account. It provides link and you can also link your YouTube videos to slides the
presentation. Slide share is ready source of information for the students as well as for the faculty
members at free of cost.

EdX (Learning management system)

EdX is the online learning destination founded by Harvard and MIT in 2012.EdX offers courses
from the world’s best universities and institutions to learners everywhere. It is the only leading
MOOC provider that is both nonprofit oriented and available as an open source. The EdX mission
is to-
• Increase access to high-quality education for everyone, everywhere

• Enhance teaching and learning on campus and online.

• Advance teaching and learning through research.
You can go to website can search courses available in different areas. You can enroll for any
courses. It gives advantage of that once you enroll/register you can enroll to any of courses learning
is free of cost but for certificate you have to pay and cost of certification ranges 200 to 300 dollar.

Activity time-
• Choose a field.
• Make your own ppt. to share in any platform.
• Try this and don’t limit yourself with just uploading, you share it with your colleges, follow
members.

• Apart from Edx there are several platforms for open learning, you just go through them .
• Many of these are free to learn and need charges only for certifications.
CEMCA
Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia. This is the most powerful rising source of
OER. In website of CEMCA you can find the various course material which are hosted in their
main website, various free text is also available. The same exercise we have given you in LbD
(Learning by doing).

Creating OER
First thing is to what is required to create OER. Second is tools like directories, platform and
management system, the content and digital content creators are needed and lastly implementation
sources are needed to share. You can see the major parameter for OER creation tool, content and
implement resources.

Now analyze yourself -

1. Do you want to be updated?
2. Do you want to be global?
3. Do you want to attract collaborator?
4. Do you want to be recognized in your field?
5. Do you want to share your knowledge and work?

• Open platforms and LMS (discussed earlier like Creative Commons, OER Commons,
SlideShare, Moodle, etc.)

Students can go for YouTube, SlideShare to upload and explore OERs. Teacher should go for
MOOCs on SWAYAM.

Contents
It is very important aspect it should be correct, plagiarism free and updated. You can’t copy paste.
It should be free from copy right issue.
• It should be Factually correct
• Quality of content
• Content must be plagiarism free (Take care of copyright issue)
• Easy to follow/ understand
• Simple and effective organization
• Cohesion and coherence
• Concise presentation of each subtopic
• Engaging
