This bulletin is relevant for, and distributed to clients having a Kongsberg Maritime
DP, PM or Joystick system with the following product identification and software version:

SDP,SDPM,SPM,SJS with software versions(from - up to and including): 2.0.0 - 6.2.4


K-Pos,cPos,cJoy with software versions(from - up to and including): 7.0.0 - 7.0.12, 7.1.0 - 7.1.12 or 8.1.0 - 8.1.2

DP Joystick Response when controller Uptime Exceeds 250 Days

Description and background


Kongsberg Maritime has been made aware of an event where the DP Joystick commands
would not generate any thruster demand while in manual DP Joystick mode.
After investigation KM has detected that an incorrect handling of a system timer causes
the DP Joystick to become non responsive when the DP controller reaches an uptime of
250 days. Uptime is the amount of time a DP Controller has been continuously running
without a reset.

Note! Full Auto positioning is not affected. The problem is only experienced in manual DP
Joystick mode or in mixed Joystick/Auto modes when any of the surge, sway or yaw axis are
controlled by using the joystick.

Corrective action

To overcome this problem KM recommends the following when operations allow for it:

- Reset the DP Controller (SBC or RCU) on DP main, DP backup and/or Independent


joystick system before reaching an uptime of 250 days. (This will delay the
situation for another 250 days)

The SDP and K-Pos systems with software versions 6.1.0 or higher allow the user to
access the uptime in the Equipment view, and also to print a report page containing the
uptime of all controllers. For SDP systems starting in Software version 5.0.3 and below the
controller uptime is not available in the equipment view, and a regular reset of the DP
controllers is therefore recommended for these systems.
Please see the attached procedure for how to access uptime information and to reset the
DP controllers.

Kongsberg Maritime can schedule for the SDP / K-Pos DP software to be updated during
next ordinary software service visit onboard.
