WEEK 4- Different Festivals Celebrated in Visayas and MIMAROPA

STANDARD
PERFORMANCE : The learner create artworks showing the characteristic elements
of the arts of Luzon (Highlands and lowlands).

INTRODUCTION
Instruction: a. Start the lesson by asking the students their most memorable birthday.
b. Let them state why and how did that birthday become really special.
c. Explain to the class that there are also special occasions in our country that is being celebrated in a
extravagant way.
INTERACTION
Famous Philippine Festivals in MIMAROPA and Visayas
1.Moriones Festival is a religious festivity celebration Marinduque held during the Lenten Season in honor
of St. Longinus. The participants wear colorful Morion masks depicting the Roman soldier.
2. Sinulog Festival is the Cebuanos grand, colorful, and religious festival in honor of Sr. Sto. Niño held
every third Sunday of January. It means “the water current”. It is celebrated for the gratitude of their
bountiful life. The dancers and Cebuanos yell “Viva Pit Senyor!”

3. Ati-atihan Festival is a religious festival in honor of Sr. Sto. Niño held every January. The dancers’
bodies are painted black honoring the Aetas of Kalibo, Aklan. They yell “Hala! Bira!

 4. Dinagyang Festival is a prestigious festival in Iloilo City held every fourth Sunday of January in honor
of Sr. Sto. Niño. The participants wear creative shield and spear that represents the Ati warriors.

5.  Masskara Festival is the most colorful festival from the City of Smiles, Bacolod City held every 4th
Sunday of October. Mass means people and kara means faces. This started when the Negrenses went
through a tragic ferry accident that made most of them mourn. Lifting their spirits, smiling masks were
created.
6. Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival is a cultural-religious festival held every January in Tacloban City.
Dancers paint their bodies representing the tattooed warrior from the past. This is celebrated honoring Sr.
Sto. Niño.
