so i muhammad afif bin ahmad zaidi will talk about the history and background of

MFRS, starting from 1st january 2005 in order to show the malaysia commitment in
alligning with the global accounting standards, the MASB accounting standards were
renamed financial reporting standard (FRS)

in malaysia, companies are only required to implement and adopt all FRS in their
financial statements starting from 1st January 2006, this was the first step taken
by the MASB to demonstrate its commitment to IFRS convergence

since 2006, MASB has standardized FRS Standards to make them similar to IFRS and
FRS also was renumbered to match the IFRS numbering exactly (for example, FRS 1
referred to IFRS 1, and FRS 101 referred to IAS1)
and MASB indicated that it would achieve full convergence with IFRS by 1st January
2012

in november 2011, in accordance with full convergence, the MASB establish a new
accounting framework which is MFRS that is fully compliant with the IFRS framework

As a result, Malaysia had successfully implemented three sets of MASB-approved
accounting frameworks which is MFRS framework,PERS and FRS framework and all the
entities other than private entities must use the MFRS Framework as of 1st January
2012

entities that have altenately chosen to apply FRS must comply with MFRS for annual
periods beginning on or after 1st January 2018, this is according to the MASB
Notice titled Amendment to the effective date and applicability of the MFRS which
was issued on 28th October 2015. the MFRS framework can be used as soon as
possible.

The FRS shall be withdrawn for application for financial statements with annual
periods beginning on or after 1st January 2018

comparison to other nation, the convergence path for Malaysia was comparatively
less challenging compared to the paths of other countries attempting convergence or
adoption for the first time because that most of the provisions of IFRS had already
been incorporated into Malaysian Accounting Standards since 1978 as a result
switching to MFRS framework had only a minor budgetary impact
