1. If the lines are parallel, they do
not intersect.
2. Line 𝒙 and line 𝒚 do not
intersect; therefore, they are
parallel.

1. If two angles are right angles,
then they are congruent.
2. ∠𝑨 and ∠𝑩 are congruent,
then they are right angles.

If-Then Statements
If-Then Statement
- is composed of two clauses: the if-
clause and the then-clause
- each clause can be denoted by a
letter
- 𝒑 for the if-clause and 𝒒 for the then-
clause
- the statement is in the form,
“If 𝒑 then 𝒒”
If-Then Statement
- is also called Conditional Statement
- the 𝒑 statement is called the
hypothesis
- the 𝒒 statement is called the
conclusion
- a simple flow of reasoning from the if-
clause to the then-clause is called
simple implication
There are some conditional
statements not written in if-
then form but can be rewritten
into if-then form
1. A triangle is a polygon.
If-then form:
If a shape is a triangle, then it is a
polygon.
Hypothesis:
A shape is a triangle.
Conclusion:
It is a polygon.
2. Vertical angles are congruent.
If-then form:
If two angles are vertical angles,
then they are congruent.
Hypothesis:
Two angles are vertical angles.
Conclusion:
They are congruent.
3. An even number is divisible by two.
If-then form:
If a number is even, then it is
divisible by two.
Hypothesis:
A number is even.
Conclusion:
It is divisible by two.

quick to respond during calamities.
If-then form:
If you are a National Disaster Risk
Reduction Management Council
volunteer, then you are quick to
respond during calamities.
If-then form:
If you are a National Disaster Risk

Hypothesis:

If-then form:

Convert each statement
to if-then form, then
identify the hypothesis
and the conclusion.
1. A quadrilateral has four sides.
If-then form:
If a shape is a quadrilateral, then it
has four sides.
Hypothesis:
A shape is a quadrilateral.
Conclusion:
It has four sides.
2. An isosceles triangle has a pair of
congruent sides.
If-then form:
If a triangle is an isosceles, then it
has a pair of congruent sides.
Hypothesis:
A triangle is an isosceles.
Conclusion:
It has a pair of congruent sides.
3. Perpendicular lines intersect.
If-then form:
If two lines are perpendicular, then
they intersect.
Hypothesis:
Two lines are perpendicular.
Conclusion:
They intersect.
4. An eighteen-year-old Filipino can
cast his vote during an election.
If-then form:
If a Filipino is eighteen years old, then
he can cast his vote during election.
Hypothesis:
A Filipino is eighteen years old.
Conclusion:
He can cast his vote during election.
