NCLT Approves Transfer of Ownership of
Jet Airways to Jalan-Kalrock Consortium Banking

• National Company Law Tribunal allowed the transfer of ownership

of Jet Airways to the Jalan-Kalrock consortium

• Due to a financial crisis Jet Airways closed its operations in April

2019, after which it underwent a resolution process under the
Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.

• The revival plan submitted by the JKC was cleared by Jet’s

committee of creditors in October 2020.

• The NCLT approved the revival plan in June 2021.

• In accordance with the revival plan, JKC proposed a total infusion

of Rs 1,375 crore, in which Rs 900 crore towards capital infusion
and Rs 475 crore paid to creditors (Rs 380 crore will go to financial
creditors).

• JKC will have an 89.79% stake while 9.5% will go to lenders.

Paytm Bank Gets RBI nod to Operate
as Bharat Bill Payment Operating Unit Banking

• Paytm Payments Bank has received final approval from the Reserve Bank
of India to operate as a Bharat Bill Payment Operating Unit (BBPOU).

• Under Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), a BBPOU is allowed to

facilitate bill payment services of electricity, phone, DTH, water, gas
insurance, loan repayments, FASTag recharge, education fees, credit
card bill and municipal taxes.

• PPBL has got the final approval from RBI to operate as Bharat Bill
Payment Operating Unit under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act,
2007. As an entity under Bharat Bill Payment System, PPBL has got the
final authorization to conduct bill payment and aggregation business as a
BBPOU.

• BBPS was conceptualised by the Reserve Bank of India in 2013 and is a

product of the National Payments Council of India (NPCI).

• It was launched as a pilot project in 2016 and went live a year later.

• Protean eGov Technologies Limited (formerly NSDL e-Governance
Infrastructure Limited), has received approval from the RBI for its
wholly owned subsidiary to operate as an Account Aggregator with
an NBFC (Non-Banking Financial Company)-AA certificate.

• AA is a type of RBI regulated entity (that helps an individual to

securely and digitally access and share information from one
financial institution they have an account with to any other
regulated financial institution. Data cannot be shared without the
consent of the individual.

Drone Loans for Garuda Kisan Drones Banking

• Garuda Aerospace Pvt Ltd partnered with the Union Bank of India

• Under this partnership, 150 Garuda Agri Kisan drones have received
sanction for Loan under the Union Kisan Pushpak Scheme.

• This partnership is for the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund scheme and

capital subsidy under sub- mission on Agriculture Mechanization

• AIF Scheme has about Rs 1 lakh crore out of which Rs 1,000 crores have
been allocated to drones.

• The AIF loans are collateral-free and can secure up to Rs.10 lakhs with
three months of EMI relaxation and a 5 percent interest rate for the youth
and farmers.

Padho Pardesh scheme discontinued
by Ministry of Minority Affairs National

• The Ministry of Minority Affairs has discontinued the scheme of interest

subsidy on education loans for overseas studies for students belonging to
minority communities (Padho Pardesh).

• All banks were notified by the Indian Banks’ Association last month about the
discontinuation of the Padho Pardesh Interest Subsidy Scheme from 2022-23.

• The scheme so far was being implemented through Canara Bank, the
designated nodal bank.

• The objective of the scheme, which was part of the then Prime Minister’s June
2006 fifteen-point programme for the welfare of minorities, is to award interest
subsidy to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of
notified minority communities to provide them better opportunities for higher
education at Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D levels abroad and enhance their
employability.

• Under the scheme, interest payable by the students availing education loans
as prescribed under the Education Loan Scheme of the IBA for the period of
moratorium (that is course period, plus one year or six months after getting a
job, whichever is earlier) shall be borne by the Government of India.

MV Ganga Vilas

• PM Narendra Modi flagged off the ‘MV Ganga Vilas’, the world’s longest river
cruise in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The 51-day luxury cruise, passing through 27
river systems, will cover a distance of 3,200 km from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to
Dibrugarh in Assam, via Bangladesh.

• The first trip of the cruise hosts 32 tourists from Switzerland.

• The expected date of arrival of MV Ganga Vilas in Dibrugarh is on 1st March, 2023.

• MV Ganga Vilas, the first of its kind cruise service, is supported by the Inland
Waterways Authority of India under Ministry of Shipping, Ports and Waterways

• The MV Ganga Vilas vessel is 62 meters in length, 12 meters in width

• The cruise has a capacity of carrying 36 passengers.’

• MV Ganga Vilas cruise cost around Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 per day and the cost
of the entire 51-day trip will be around Rs 20 lakh.

• The cruise includes visit to 50 tourists spots including world heritage sites, national
parks, river ghats, and major cities like Patna in Bihar, Sahibganj in Jharkhand,
Kolkata in West Bengal, Dhaka in Bangladesh and Guwahati in Assam.

• The international cruise is being offered by Antara Luxury River Cruises.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya stated that India is
committed to eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis
by 2027 three years ahead of the global target

• The health ministry has developed a new five-

pronged plan as part of its resolve to eradicate
the disease by the end of 2027.

Government Declared Jammu and
Kashmir as ‘Free Area’ for PCICDA 2009 National

• Jammu and Kashmir’s governments have declared the union

territory as a “Free Area” for purposes of the Prevention and
Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals Act
2009.

• According to the notification issued by the government, the

declaration has been made in the exercise of the power conferred
by sub-section (5) of section 6 of the Prevention and Control of
Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animals (PCICDA) Act
2009.

• The Notification has been issued after the Government on being

satisfied that no cases of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) have been
reported from any district of the Union territory of Jammu and
Kashmir.

India to be covered by the Doppler
Weather Radar Network by 2025 National

• On the occasion of the 148th Foundation Day of the Indian

Meteorological Department (15th January 2022), Dr Jitendra
Singh, Union Minister of State(MoS) for Earth Sciences stated that
India will be covered by Doppler Weather Radar Network by 2025
to predict extreme weather events more accurately.

• This will enhance weather monitoring capabilities and benefit the

farmers and other stakeholders to contribute significantly to the
economy.

• During the event, He also dedicated 4 Doppler Weather Radar

Systems for Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal
Pradesh and also dedicated 200 Agro Automated Weather
Stations to the Nation.

Russia Is Fourth Biggest Source of Imports for India

• Russia has now become India’s fourth-largest trading
partner, with imports from Russia increasing five-fold to
USD 32.9 billion between April – December 2022.

• India’s higher imports from Russia are mostly due to

two commodities: fertilizers and crude oil.

• Russia has improved from being India’s 20th largest

source of imports in the previous fiscal year (FY22).

• Larsen & Toubro (L&T) signed an agreement
with the Norway-based H2Carrier to develop
floating green ammonia projects

• H2C plans to build the P2XFloater hull at yards

in Asia, and L&T will design and fabricate the
topside process and utility modules to produce
green hydrogen and green ammonia, including
electrolysers, nitrogen generation plant, and
ammonia synthesis unit.
