EPP 201 MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY 1

(ASSIGNMENT 1)

NAME: MUHAMMAD YUSUF BIN DHAHIR HUSSAIN

MATRIC NO: 159237
SCHOOL: SCHOOL OF AEROSPACE ENGINEERING
LECTURER: DR. SAREH AIMAN HILMI
COMPONENT B

QUESTION 1
STEP OF MACHINING PROCESSES TO PRODUCE COMPONENT B:
1. TURNING - Turning is the most common lathe machining operation. During the
turning process, a cutting tool removes material from the outer diameter of a rotating
workpiece. The main objective of turning is to reduce the workpiece diameter to the
desired dimension.
2. DRILLING - Drilling is a material-removing or cutting process in which the tool
uses a drill bit to cut a hole of circular cross-section in solid materials.
3. BORING - process of enlarging a hole that has already been drilled (or cast) by
means of a single-point cutting tool (or of a boring head containing several such tools)
4. TAPPING - TAPPING is a machining process for producing internal threads. A tap
is a cylindrical or conical thread-cutting tool having threads of a desired form on the
periphery. Combining rotary motion with axial motion, the tap cuts or forms the
internal thread.
5. FACING - Facing on a milling machine is the process of cutting a flat surface
perpendicular to the axes of the milling cutter. This process removes the material by
rotating the facing tool in the counterclockwise direction as the table feeds the work
piece across the cutter. The purpose of facing are; To provide a true, flat surface,
square with the axis of the workpieces; To provide and accurate surface from which to
take measurements; To cut the workpieces to the required length.
6. GRINDING - Grinding is machining process that's used to remove material from a
workpiece via a grinding wheel. As the grinding wheel turns, it cuts material off the
workpiece while creating a smooth surface texture in the process.
7. END MILLING - An end milling process consists of a cylindrical cutter that has
multiple cutting edges on both its periphery and its tip, permitting end cutting and
peripheral cutting. These cutting edges or flutes are usually made helical to reduce the
impact that occurs when each flute engages the workpiece.
QUESTION 2
IMPROVEMENT THAT COULD BE DONE TO THE LIST OF MACHINING
PROCESSES THAT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED TO REDUCE POWER CONSUMPTION
DURING MACHINING, REDUCE WASTE AND EVEN POLLUTION.
1. High feed rate can harm apparatus or workpiece or just as the surface completion of
the shaft, so lesser feed rate can facilitate the cycle.
2. Material wastage is high in machining process, for this we can choose the billet size
exceptionally near real required breadth of driving rod (low resistance)
3. Machining time can be decreased by improving the abilities of the administrator.
4. Cost can be decreased by using fewer resources and raw materials to produce the
completed good. Even if you are unable to use the recycled materials yourself, you
can still generate a profit by selling them to a manufacturer that can.
5. Most machining involves the use of heat, electricity, or oil as a source, which is bad
for the environment. This source has been replaced with energy derived from
renewable resources, such as solar, wind, or other.
