Arnis is the national martial art and sport of the Philippines, also known as Eskrima and Kali. It traditionally uses weapons like knives, blades, spears, and swords. In 1975, the National Arnis Association of the Philippines was formed to promote Arnis, with the goal of creating an effective self-defense system based on traditional techniques. Arnis helps develop self-discipline and control through use of sticks, giving practitioners a means of self-defense while refining skills and techniques through regular training.

Arnis is the national martial art sport of the Philippines.
It is also known by the
name Eskrima and Kali. Knives, blades, spears, bolo, the Indonesian dagger kalis, and the single-edged sword kampilan from Mindanao are just some of the sharp-edged weapons also used in this sport.
In 1521, Filipino islanders defeated Ferdinand Magellan's armored, musket-
bearing Spanish conquistador forces. Arnis traditionally involved rattan, swords, daggers, and spears. In 2009, the government of the Philippines declared arnis to be the martial art and national sport.
In 1975, the National Arnis Association of the Philippines (NARAPHIL) was
formed by Gen. Fabian C. Ver. This organization acted as the first national organization for Arnis in the Philippines. The main goal of Arnis as a fighting art in the Philippines is that Modern Arnis is the system of Filipino fighting arts founded by Grandmaster Remy Presas as a self-defense system. His goal was to create an effective self-defense system that preserved the traditional Arnis movements. Its existence however, faded after the radical change and total revamp in the Philippine government caused by the Philippine Revolution of 1986. In the meantime, in many parts of the world, popular names and groups have been busy propagating the Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) and sports, pushing their teachings and techniques. Some people successfully made their way into martial arts schools, police academies, military schools, educational institutions, government agencies, and even in the entertainment world. Arnis can help us in our daily life, to develop self-discipline and control because Arnis is a simple martial art and it is the defense of oneself by only using sticks. It gives more extension to our arm and gives us a wide range. We will learn to discipline ourselves and it will develop self-control. I can say about arnis being a self-defense. Hence, arnis and other martial arts are known as forms of self-defense. They are not used for bullying or intimidating innocent and weak people. With regular training, an arnisador refines his skills and techniques.
