Solomon Northup liked to play his violin. One
day, two men asked him to play in their circus
shows, and Solomon agreed. In Washington,
they gave Solomon a glass of wine, and soon he
was in great pain. When he woke up, a man told
him that now he was a slave.
Solomon worked on different farms for different
masters. He cut timber and sugar cane, and he
picked cotton. After many years, two men came
to say that he was free.
