THE EFFECTS OF THE SLOW INTERNET ON THE

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF SENIOR HIGHSCHOOL

Abstract
Questionnaires were distributed to 15 random students in Moreh Academy Taguig. The questions
in this survey consisted of various questions designed for students at Moreh Academy Taguig to
elicit the effects of slow internet on their academic performance.

According to the survey, the majority of students experiencing slow internet and the majority of
students use the internet to guide them through their academic activities, and the majority of
students at Moreh Academy use the internet to participate in their online sessions. It was
discovered that the majority of students who responded to the survey use their smartphones for
distance learning, and that 100% of 15 students do not feel satisfied with online education, and
93 percent of 15 students do not feel satisfied with online learning. It also revealed that all 15
students use Google as their primary search engine, with the majority of them having only 10-20
mbps internet speeds. After a thorough examination and consideration of the foregoing as well as
the study's conclusions. The following suggestion is offered.

1. In order to have a fast internet, the government should implement their own internet under
government control. As a result, the government will be able to manage and improve Filipinos'
internet access.
Background and Objectives
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the world. Due to the nature of the virus, particularly how
it spreads, has changed human behavior, relationships, and lifestyles, as well as education.
Because of the pandemic, the government implemented a new innovative way of education,
which is online learning. However, many students are unable to adapt to this new way of
learning for a several of reasons. These are the following:

1. There is no gadget to use.

2. The internet is slow.

As a result, they receive poor grades, which causes them stress. So this study main objective is to
solve the internet issue and to identify the effects of the slow internet on academic performance
of students at Moreh Academy Taguig. The Internet is a vast repository of information. Students
can find study resources relating to the subject they are studying on a variety of websites.

This study present investigated the effects of the slow internet on the academics
performance of students at Moreh Academy. This survey to aims examine the effect of internet
use on the academic performance of the students and to identify the effects of slow internet on
the academic performance of students at moreh academy
Methodology
This study focused on the effects of slower internet speeds on the academic performance of
online students at Moreh Academy Taguig. This is a multiple choices survey design that was
adopted for this study. This survey was distributed to fifteen (15) students from Moreh Academy
Taguig. The research instrument used was a structured questionnaire tagged "The Effects of the
Slow Internet on the Academic Performance of Online Students at Moreh Academy Taguig".

The questionnaire was divided into 2 sections. Section A dealt with the profile of
respondents, which includes the name, gender, and age of respondents. Section B is about the
effects of the slow internet on the academic performance of online students at Moreh Academy
Taguig. 11 questions were developed in this section. This will measure how students from Moreh
Academy Taguig often use the internet, how useful it is for their academic activities and how
they feel about online learning.

Result and Findings


This section below is the presentation and analysis of data from the respondents obtained from
the distributed questionnaires. The results were based on the various data obtained from the set
of questionnaires.

1. Distribution of Respondents According to Gender.

According to this results, 53% of respondents are male, while 46% are female. So based on this,
the majority are males.

2. Distribution of Respondents According to Age.


According to this result, 46.7% of respondent are age of 17, 33% of respondents are 18,

13.3% are 19, and 6.7% is 20. Based on this, the majority of respondents are 17.

3. How do you feel overall about online education?

According to this result, 100% of the 15 respondents are not satisfied with overall online
learning.

4. Are you satisfied with the Online learning?


According to this graph, 93.3% of respondents are not satisfied with online learning,
while 6.7% are satisfied.

5. What devices do you use for online learning?

According to this graph, the majority of respondents are using smartphone for their online
learning.

6. How much time do you spend each day on average on distance education?
According to this graph, 60% of respondents are averaging 3-5 hours of study, 33.3% are
averaging 6-8 hours, and 6.7% are averaging 1-3 hours.

7. What internet are you using?

According to this graph, 60% of respondents are using converge while 40% are using Pldt.

8. How many mbps does your internet provide?

According to this graph, the majority of respondent’s internet only averaging 10-20 mbps.
9. How many persons live in your home?

According to this graph, the 53.3% respondents has more than 6.

10. How helpful internet for your study?

According to this graph, 100% of respondents said the internet is very helpful to their studies.

11. Do you pass your activity on time?


According to this graph, 80% of respondents answered yes, 6.7% answered no, 6.7% answered
they were passing the actual deadline, and 6.7% said often but not all the time.

12. Usefulness of internet on academic activities.

According to this graph, the majority of respondents said the internet makes academic activities
much easier.

13. Search Engine


According to this graph, 100% of respondents are using google as their search engine.

14. Influence of internet on student performance percentage.

According to this graph, 93% of the respondents said that the influence of internet on academic
performance is to help prepare for assignment, examinations and tests.
Conclusion and Recommendation
The goal of this study was to look into the effects of the slow internet on academic performance
at Moreh Academy Taguig. Also, the purpose of this study is to identify the problems and solve
them. This survey is about how students from Moreh Academy feel about the new way of
learning. The study reveals that the internet has a huge influence on students' academic
performance. However, the slow internet prevents students from achieving academic success.
Therefore, the government should enchance the internet here in the Philippines, which in turn
would have a positive effect on their academic performance. recommendation:

1. The government should implement their own internet broadband under the government.
