THE GREAT PROCESSION OF THE SAINT in honor of St. Louis, King of
France, patron of our parish and of Old Mission San Luis Rey will be held Friday, August 26 at 7:30 PM. Beginning with a prayer service in the Old Mission Church, the multi-cultural celebration will feature a procession, fireworks, live music and Aztec dancers. The event is free and open to the public. Please bring cookies and brownies to share. All are welcome!

Sacrament of Reconciliation
Starting Sept. 1, the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Saturday morning in the Serra Center from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and by personal appointment with any of the priests on staff. Please note: There is NO reconciliation on Saturdays when the parish offices are closed because of national holidays.

Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

Starting Sept. 1, the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick will be offered once a month, as well as by personal appointment with any of the priests on staff. For the rest of 2011, the Sacrament will be available in the Chapel at the 7:30 a.m. Mass and at 11:00 a.m. on the following dates: Saturdays: Sept. 10th, Oct. TBD, and Nov. 12th.

GRIEF/ A HEALING JOURNEY

Grief Support Ministry
The purpose of the Grief/ A Healing Journey is to provide ongoing emotional support and information for people in the midst of their grief as well as the process of healing. Trained and experienced facilitators will guide the group by providing participants the opportunity to share experiences, thoughts and feelings with others who are in similar situations. The purpose of this group is peer group support NOT therapy. The nine sessions will be starting September 8, 2011 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM in the Peyri Room at the Old Mission Retreat Center. The Assumption of Mary, August 15, 2011, is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this year. Therefore, we will not have a separate Mass on this date. We will have our 7:30 AM Daily Mass in the PC Chapel as usual.

In Tales of St. Francis, Ancient Stories for Contemporary Living, Murray Bodo uses a variety of sources and legends about St. Francis to demonstrate the saints love and courage living in a materialistic world. And Marco Bartoli, in his book Saint Clare Beyond the Legend, tells the story of the enthusiastic first woman follower of St. Francis.

Catechists /Teachers needed

Young people today are looking for individuals who are authentic and confident Catholics, as models of the faith. It is not how much you know about the faith but how you live it. With this in mind please consider the following. We are in need of catechists/teachers for our high school youth faith formation program. We are looking for men & women who would be willing to share and teach the faith, engage in discussion and faith experiences with our young people. Classes are on Tuesday evenings with some Saturday mornings. Training, resources, etc., are provided. Last year our Confirmation Program and other high school classes had over 150 students. Many of last years teachers have moved or are unable to commit for this year. At present we need eight teachers and also classroom aides. The New Missal The Catechetical Minute

How are preparing for the change? Believe it or not, we have already been preparing. The changes in the layout of Serra Center, the new variety of music in both style and text, the emphasis on the distinct parts of the Mass and the reclaiming of silence and reverence are a few we have done. Last June there was a four week test class on Tuesday mornings to gauge what concerns and questions people had. This class proved that much of the concern was in listening to rumors and spin rather than what was truly involved. Now as we begin the Pastoral Year we will begin more focused and structured catechesis on the New Revised Translation of the Roman Missal: In September there will be weekly Catechetical Minutes on various topics concerning the revised texts. In Adult Faith Formation the following topics will be offered: Lessons of Faith - a history of the Mass Parish Bible study - scriptural images in the revised text (seasonally) There will be specific workshops offered to the catechists, and many of the ministries in the parish. There will be availability of speakers to talk to most groups. We are planning to have catechesis after all Masses on specific Sundays in November. There will be literature and worship aids available in the parish bookstore in early fall. Several other things are in process and will be announced as they are available. ASSIST WITH A BIBLE

At the Easter Vigil our parish community witnessed over sixty five people receiving the sacraments necessary to complete their full entrance into the Church. One of the key elements of their catechesis is the coming to know the Scriptures, the Word of God, on a weekly basis. During weekly class and again when they gather on Sunday they come to build a relationship with Jesus Christ that they will carry with them for all their lives. For this to take place the RCIA catechumens & candidates are given a Bible at the ceremony marking the beginning of their journey of faith. Our parish faith formation budget is stretched this year trying to cover many, many, needs. Your help will be greatly appreciated if you could help us with providing Bibles to our RICA groups (both English & Spanish). A donation of $20.00, or any amount, would help us in purchasing a Bible for each RCIA catechumen or candidate entering the Church next Easter. If you wish to give, you may make a donation at the Parish Office or Bill Bischoffs office, or drop it into the collection in an envelope marked BIBLES. La Asuncin de la Virgen Mara

La Asuncin de Mara, el 15 de agosto del 2011, no es un Da de Obligacin este ao. Por lo cual, no tendremos una Misa separada en este da. Nosotros celebraremos nuestra Misa Diaria (regular) de 7:30 a.m. en la Capilla Parroquial.

Cmo estamos preparndonos para el Misal Nuevo? Aunque no lo crean, nosotros nos hemos estado preparando. Los cambios en la distribucin del Centro Serra, la variedad nueva de msica en el texto y en estilo, el nfasis en las partes diferentes de la Misa y el reclamar silencio y reverencia, son algunas de stas. El pasado mes de junio tuvimos cuatro semanas de clases de prueba, los martes por la maana, para medir qu preocupaciones existen en las personas actualmente al efecto. Esta clase demostr que gran parte de la preocupacin se refiere a los rumores que se escuchan circulando en vez de lo que sto envuelve. Ahora, al iniciar el Ao Pastoral, nosotros comenzaremos nuestra catequesis estructurada en la Traduccin Nueva Revisada del Misal Romano: En septiembre tendremos Notas Catequticas semanales sobre varios tpicos relacionados con los textos revisados. En Formacin de Fe de Adultos se ofrecern los tiempos siguientes: Lecciones Sobre la Fe - la historia de la Misa. Estudio Bblico Parroquial - imgenes de las Escrituras en el texto revisado. Tendremos talleres especficos ofrecidos a las catequistas y en muchos de los ministerios parroquiales. Habr disponibilidad de presentadores para hablarles a la mayora de los grupos. Estamos planeando ofrecer catequesis despus de todas las Misas en algunos domingos especficos de noviembre. Habr literatura y ayuda sobre adoracin disponible en la biblioteca parroquial temprano en otoo. Otros aspectos estn en proceso y se comunicarn una vez estn disponibles. El Sacramento de Reconciliacin
Comenzando el primero de septiembre, el Sacramento de Reconciliacin estar disponible en el Centro Serra los sbados de 9:00 a.m. a 10:30 a.m. y por cita personal con cualquiera de los sacerdotes. Favor de notar: NO habr Servicio de Reconciliacin los sbados cuando las oficinas parroquiales estn cerradas debido a un da nacional festivo.

El Sacramento de la Uncin de los Enfermos

Comenzando el primero de septiembre, el Sacramento de la Uncin de los Enfermos se ofrecer una vez al mes, as como por cita personal con cualquiera de los sacerdotes del personal. Por el resto del ao 2011, el Sacramento estar disponible en la Capilla Parroquial en la Misa (ingles) de 7:30 a.m. y a las 11:00 a.m. los siguientes das: sbado, 10 de sept., oct. (se anunciar la fecha), y nov.

Necesitamos Catequistas y Maestros

Los jvenes hoy estn buscando individuos que sean Catlicos autnticos y confiables como modelos de la Fe. No se trata de cuanto saben sobre la Fe sino cmo la viven. Con esto en la mente, por favor consideren lo siguiente. Estamos necesitando catequistas/maestros para nuestro programa de formacin de fe para jvenes de escuela superior. Buscamos hombres y mujeres que desearan compartir y ensear la Fe, participar en discusiones y en experiencias de su Fe con nuestra gente joven. Las clases se celebran los martes por la noche y algunos sbados por la maana. El entrenamiento as como los recursos y materiales sern provistos. El ao pasado nuestro programa de confirmacin y otras clases de Escuela Superior tuvo ms de 150 estudiantes. Muchos maestros del ao pasado se han mudado o no les es posible comprometerse este ao. Actualmente, requerimos ocho maestros y tambin ayudantes para los salones de clases. Por favor consideren la posibilidad de dedicar algn tiempo con la Iglesia Juvenil ellos son el futuro de nuestra Fe. Para ms informacin por favor llama a Bill Bischoff al 760 -547-0702.

Da Festivo de San Luis

LA PROCESION DEL SANTO en honor a San Luis, Rey de Francia, patrn de nuestra parroquia y de la Misin San Luis Rey, ser el viernes, 26 de agosto a las 7:30 p.m. Comenzaremos con un servicio de oracin en la Misin Antigua, la celebracin multicultural figura una procesin, fuegos artificiales, msica en vivo y danza azteca. El evento es gratuito y est abierto para todo el pblico. Favor de traer galletas para compartir con los dems.

Si eres mayor de 18 aos y te hace falta alguno de tus Sacramentos como el Bautismo, Primera Comunin o Confirmacin, el programa de Rito de Iniciacin Cristiana para Adultos es para ti. Tambin, si ya tienes todos tus sacramentos, pero deseas conocer a ms profundidad tu fe, este programa tambin te da esa oportunidad.
