HIGHLIGHTS

Applied to all persons who manage and enter a confined


space

Does not apply to underground mining or to work in space


other than normal atmospheric pressure

A person whose upper body and/ or head is/ are within a


confined space is considered to have entered the confined
space

Employees who are involved in entry into confined spaces,


serve as stand-by persons, or issue permits must undergo
training of confined space safety program approved by DOSH

WHY PTW IS NEEDED?
The severity of the risks
• Fatality, major injury, minor injury, first aid

Unusual risks are present


• Outside the normal knowledge and experience of
those carrying out the work
Complex isolations are necessary
• power sources, services or supplies

Special precautions are required


• Atmospheric testing, specialist equipment

Unfamiliarity of personnel

PTW GUIDES
The duration shall be stated and sufficient to
complete the work not exceeding EIGHT (8) hours.

The PTW may be extended by ES only once for a


maximum of FOUR (4) hours, provided all the terms
and conditions remain the same.
The ES shall CANCEL the permit if and when a
condition that is not allowed under the permit arises
in or near the CS.
The permit shall be CLOSED by the ES after the
completion of the work or after maximum of 12
hours.
