a. FCS Basic Human Needs
i. Food, housing, clothing, health, safety
b. Individual Well-Being
i. social/emotional, personal finance, personal relationships
c. Family strengths
i. work/life balance, communication, well-being, nutrition
d. Community vitality
i. Community system, entrepreneurship
2. What are the tools of inquiry used in FCS content i.e. asking questions, gathering
knowledge, etc.?
a. This seminar used polls and surveys as tools of inquiry. They also shared how
information and knowledge can be gathered by forming relationships in the
community with business leaders and other members.
3. What are the structures (basic concepts identified/defined, etc.) of the FCS discipline?
a. Family and Consumer Sciences is composed of three different career pathways
which are the center of leadership and employability skills. These pathways are
education and human services, hospitality and food production, and visual arts
and design. These all focus on the science and art of quality living.
