PROJECT PROPOSAL

TITLE OF PROJECT: Project Silongan: School Canopy

PROPOSED DATE: _______, 2021

FUNDING SOURCE: MOOE

PROPONENT/S: SHEILA B. LEONARDO

I. INTRODUCTION:

School Canopies are outdoor spaces that are designed and built around the way we want
to live, work and learn that can make such a difference to schools, as a positive environment can
heavily impact the overall experience that both students and staff have while on campus.

School canopies are used to create more useable covered space around school sites. From
designated safe and covered waiting areas to better outdoor learning opportunities, outdoor
canopies for schools bring with them a number of benefits. They can help to provide a safe and
protected environment for pupils and staff to enjoy the outdoors, whether it’s to learn or relax.
They also help students to spend more time outdoors in the fresh air, as they can protect from a
range of weather conditions.
Further, aside from the fact that a school canopy can provide staff and pupils with
protection from the sun and shelter from the rain, it also contributes to transforming previously
unused areas into the perfect outdoor learning area, dining area or social space and the like.

II. RATIONALE:

It is never an enjoyable experience having to wait outside in heavy rain or under the
blazing heat of the sun while waiting for someone or something. Canopies can bring a number of
benefits to help make the day to day running more enjoyable for everyone. They can provide a
waiting area for parents dropping off or picking up their children, along with shelter for staff and
pupils queuing up.

Covered walkways allow for staff and pupils to travel in between buildings without having
to run to escape heavy rain. This can help to avoid accidents and pupils are less likely to slip over
whilst running to escape the rain. In the summer months, covered walkways built next to
classroom windows can also help to keep classrooms shaded, helping to avoid them becoming
stuffy and unpleasant throughout the day.

III. OBJECTIVE:

1. To reinstall the school canopy to the newly proposed area located at the school entrance
adjacent to the entrance and exit gates respectively.
2. To create shelter and protection for the parents, learners, teachers, staff and other
stakeholders from the sun and the rain.
