A triangular field ABC is such that AB = 56m and BC = 82m, each measured correct to the
nearest meter. The angle at B is equal to 105°, measured correct to the nearest 5°.

(a) Find the maximum possible length of each side AB and BC.

(b) Calculate the maximum possible area of the triangle.

A right cone has a radius of 5cm and a total surface area of 314.

(a) Find the slant height of the cone.

(b) Find the volume of the cone.

Question 4 [Maximum mark: 5]

In a triangle ABC, AB = 𝑥 , AC = 𝑥 + 2 and ∠A = 60°. The area of the triangle is 12 3cm2.

(a) Find the value of 𝑥.

(b) Find the length of BC.

The Volume of a hemisphere, V, is given by the formula

Question 6 [Maximum mark: 6]

A cruise ship leaves a port and travels along a bearing of 120° for 300 km and arrives at
island A. After a few days, it travels along a bearing of 75° for 450 km and arrives at island B.

(c) Find the distance between the port and island B.

(d) Find the bearing of island B from port.

On the diagram below, points X and Y are the centers of two circles containing the two arcs
from A to B.

(a) Find the length from point A to point Y.

(b) Find the perimeter of the shaded region.

(c) Find the area of the shaded region.
