Modification and additions I

would like to do to my car

JACOB MATIASH
Why I chose this topic

 Cars and trucks have always been a huge part of my life. If It has a motor I
was in love.
 I want to do automobile work after school so I thought that this would be a
good to do some work on my own vehicle before working on other
peoples cars
 I want to drift in competitions
Reasons I want to become a
mechanic

 Cars are one of my favorite things and I can make a living out of it.
 Mechanics can make a lot of money if your in the industry for a while. The
starting salary in Canada for auto mechanics is 52 grand a year.
 I want to have the experience and the knowledge to work on my own car.
The car
 I have a 1995 BMW 325i
with the M54B28 which
is better then the N54
because the N54
has tendencies to
explode. With what I
want to do with this car
the fact that I have a
better engine will help
with keeping the
engine alive
What I want to do with my BMW

 My plan for my car in the future is to build it into a

drift car. Drifting is an auto sport where cars slide
around corners with such precision you are almost
touching the other persons door.
 When you drift you lose control of the rear end.
Your in control even while being out of control
 This is not a cheap sport you need a lot of work
done to your car
 To make partial or minor changes to
(something), typically so as to improve it or
modification to make it less extreme.
Turbo kit
 Turbocharging your
drift car will provide
more power in higher
RPMs, at the cost of
lacking low-end torque
 It also makes a good
sound

 $5000
Angle kit

 An angle kit increases your steering

angle letting your vehicle fish tail
more.
 The more the vehicles angle is the
more points you would get in event.

 $1,267
 The 2 way LSD differential allows both
the rear wheels to spin at the same
speed
 An alternative to this is a welded
differential this is where you weld the
2
teeth in a stock differential to stop the
way LSD differential wheels from spinning at different speeds

 $1,219
Race clutch

 A clutch is made up of 3 parts clutch barring,

pressure plate, and the clutch plate.
 The point of the performance clutch is that it is more
durable. When you are drifting you have to use the
clutch a lot and that wears it out. The race clutch is
more durable so you don’t have to worry about it
being warn out

 $2,113
BC Racing Coilovers

 Coil overs are adjustable suspension

you want your car to be lower then
your average car.
 The point of lowering your car is to
create down force so that the back
wheels have a lateral load rate
through the rear axel make it easier
to oversteer your car to create
angle
 $596
Weight distribution

 When building a drift car you want to have the front end heavier then the
back to have the front tires grip more making the car easier to control
 The BMWs naturally have a heavier front end because of the way they are
built.
 In my opinion BMW's are made to be drift cars for this reason
Sound system

 I currently have a after market radio and sub woofer but I am going to
have to replace the speakers and rewire the whole system.
 It would be nice to have a better sound system because im going to
need it to be a daily driver also. Don’t want to have to buy another car.
exhaust system

 I hope to do a straight pipe exhaust system because they sound great

 If I were to do this it would be home made because I can get the parts
easily from my dad
 The exhaust pipes on every vehicle is either steel or stainless steal. The only
difference is that steal has a tendency to rust where stainless does not

rims

 If I'm going to be driving the car on the daily I will

need another set of rims and tires.
 Tires get so warn out after drifting. So I would be
nice to have a set I can throw on after an event

 $1,400
Interior cosmetics
 I have ordered a steering wheel and quick
release coupling. A quick release is basically a
removable steering wheel. I'm a tall person so It
would be nice to be able to take the wheel off
when getting in and out of the car ( I don’t fit
great in the car ).
 Interior lights. Since this car will still be my daily
and I will have to drive it a lot I want to add my
own personal touches like RGB lights

 $140
Exterior cosmetics

 All the exterior cosmetics consist of paints

and body modifications
 Under glow $90
 Head lights $248
 Hard top $2000
Total price
THE TOTAL PRICE OF ALL THE PARTS IS
$14,073
How I will pay

 This will be a long term project I currently have 75 cents in my back

account
 I will put 25% of my paycheck into my savings account ($108 a week most
of the time)

 It will take 129 pay checks or 2 years and 7 months to pay for all the parts
assuming I work 3 days a week every week for that amount of time.
