Proposed Title
REDEFINING MERKADO:
A Proposed Redevelopment of Pamilihang Bayan ng Polangui through Humanistic Architecture
Research Area/Discipline
This shall be both beneficial to the local businessmen and local marketgoers. It shall
provide a spacious, clean, and convenient marketplace for the locals. A center for trade and
commerce that shall also support the welfare and needs of persons with disabilities (PWDs), as
such this shall be an inclusive facility. Humanistic Architectural encompasses all concerns of
how the human component affects architectural design. Through this design approach, the
project aims to provide the needs of the people: basic necessities, their safety, and their
belongingness in order for them to excel and reach their highest potential in productivity which
shall boost the Local Economic Development (LED) of the municipality.
Background to the Study
Polangui being a developing and first-class municipality, may escalate its progress and
boost the revenue of its economy through a better condition of Pamilihang Bayan since it is the
center of businesses and has played a very important role in the urban development of the
municipality.
Public markets encourage development, enhance real estate values and the tax base, and
keep money in the locality. Public markets also offer low-risk business opportunities for vendors
and feed money back into the local economy where many vendors grow, raise and produce their
products, hence, stimulating local economic growth. This project shall provide well-planned and
well-functional spaces to the local businesses of the municipality that shall promote productivity
and business creativity that could inspire and attract more locals to venture into businesses. This
shall lead to a higher local income generation.
According to the Comprehensive Development Plan of Polangui, “The Pamilihang Bayan

of Polangui already shows structural defects on steel columns and beams; leaking roofs;
dilapidated signage and broken waterlines in the wet section; no sewerage treatment plant.
Since the building was constructed for more than 20 years already hence its lifespan has
deteriorated. Leaking roofs are apparent, corrugated steel columns and beams that need
immediate replacement or rehab; no proper waterlines; no proper STP” This statement shows Commented [a1]: This is already a “result” that you can

• To benchmark and provide empirical data that shall present the existing struggles of
