INTRODUCTION

Motor-generator set may consist of distinct motor and generator machines coupled together, a single unit motor-
generator will have both rotor coils of the motor and the generator wound around a single rotor, and both coils
share the same outer field coils or magnets. This MG Set includes experiments that cover a core concept of 3-
Phase AC Motor, DC Generator.

The Experimental Setup consists of the following parts:

1. Input Requirement: 440V 3-Phase AC.

2. One 3 Phase AC Motor
3. One DC Generator.

PROCEDURE

Apply Input of 440 V Three Phase AC to the 3 way connector i.e. is coded as 1 of the Panel as described in the
diagram.
Wiring the 3- phase AC motor as according to the following:-
DELTA Connection:
A1, B1, C1 of motor to 3 way connector i.e. is coded as 2 of the Panel.
STAR Connection:
A2, B2, C2 of motor to 3 way connector i.e. is coded as 3 of the Panel.
Connect each armature to the each fields of the DC shunt Generator and take wiring to the 2-way connector i.e. is
coded as 4 as described in the diagram.
Start the starter in upward direction makes the Delta connection and motor will run in delta connection and by
converting the direction of the starter in downward direction makes the star connection and motor will run in star
connection.
Take the output from the 2 way connector coded as 5 of the Panel and apply to the load.
Observe the readings of the meters.

PRECAUTIONS

Supply should be switched OFF while making connections.

Do not touch terminals on panel while supply is ON.
Do not exceed beyond rated values.
All connections should be tight and clean.
